  1. Fast was a hockey decision at that price. Now is the time to see what we have in young players and get them developed if they are in the plans long term. It might mean taking a step backwards in terms of Wins next year. Gorton, JD, and Quinn have the big picture in mind.
  2. That seems like a reasonable deal for Fast. We must have something bigger in the works.
  3. Don’t know how much Martin has left in the tank or what he would cost, but he is definitely the type player we will need when we are a playoff team. He was solid in the playoffs for the Isles.
  4. I wouldn’t be relying on the trade parachute in this flat cap environment. I don’t think GMs are giving 5 year deals because they think they will be fired. A lot of times those are the deals that develop into bargains and they like the cost certainty provided.
  5. When he was not qualified I figured the Rangers were not sure they wanted him back or might have been trying to get a longer deal done. Seems really odd that they would come out that a trade was being looked at. Wouldn?t think Strome is currently in any long term plans.
  6. Have to just laugh at Brooks. We take an 18 year old RD that is years away yet he reads the tea leaves and has ADA and Nils leaving. Nils before he even gets here. Seems like quite a reach and an odd reaction to evaluating a draft pick.
  7. Nothing wrong with adding options. Players can always be used as trade chips. How about Cuylle at the stacked LW position? Lets hope every player on our roster turns out to be a star.
  8. What you said was the Rangers should not have moved up because it didn’t work out a previous time when they moved up. Glad we agree that he was BPA on the Rangers board and we liked him well enough to make the small jump. You can never have too many good players.
  9. You missed the point. As armchair QBs we can all disagree with decisions. Your logic of saying moving up at some point previously and it didn’t work out is absolutely meaningless in terms of this discussion. The Rangers ranked Schneider very highly. After the Devils missed out on D guys at #7 it was fairly obvious they would be interested in the last of the four D guys that were considered first rounders. It would have been irresponsible by Gorton and JD not to make an attempt to move up and get their guy. I think we all saw that in the Reaction from JD. The point of saying other teams then passed on other players that some of us armchair QBs thought should be taken because they happened to play C is that there were no sure fire players available at that point in the draft. A recipe for disaster is taking players you don’t rank as highly because they happen to play a position of need. Whoever we took probably won’t be in the discussion for 2 or 3 years. btw for what it is worth, I had Devils fans texting me saying we stole their guy. Again, stealing any other team’s guy is meaningless unless you have him ranked very highly. It is what fans do.
  10. Who cares that it was the Devils we felt we needed to jump? We will never know for sure, but it has been widely speculated that Schneider was the Devils pick. If you know that information and like Schneider you have to make the move. Schneider may have been our targeted pick at #22 all along. Cherry picking situations from the past that you think apply to the current situation is really meaningless. Gorton and JD know what they are doing and were privy to a lot more information than any of us will ever be.
  11. Are you saying the Rangers should not move up to take somebody in the draft because the last time you think it happened it didn?t work out? Seems like a simple case of Rangers having Schneider as BPA and not wanting to risk losing him over a 3rd rounder. The more I read about the kid, the more I like him.
  12. Rangers obviously felt Schneider was BPA there and had to move up to get him. Especially since RD is not exactly a position of need. That makes a lot more sense than taking a Center just because we currently have a hole at 2C.
  13. IMO, the Devils were looking for a D here and is the reason we jumped up
  14. Exactly. Waited a little too long and had zero production value.
  15. He was the #3 here. If he wants to keep playing it will be as a backup somewhere.
  16. Athletic has tons of good draft stuff. They did a little mock with the last ten #1 picks. LAF went 5th with much debate at 4th with Dahlin.
  17. Maybe it is an age of poster thing? The argument seems to be that Hank was the face of the franchise for over a decade and had an incredible 4 year run in the playoffs where unfortunately the Rangers did not win a Cup. Sorry but that does not come close to what Leetch accomplished and that includes official league accolades. If you are going to talk about a GOAT you need to be able to compare generations relative to the people they played against and what they accomplished.
  18. I think we are close to being a team with solid playoff chances. Not close to being a legit Cup contender. Easiest thing to add when we are ready will be bottom grinders, as long as we got cap space. Either way it will be a fun team to watch.
  19. No chance. I don’t even want to consider dealing down to #3 because the gap is so wide.
  20. The rebuild has gone better than anyone could have hoped. We got stars, we got best pipeline, we got cap space, not many bad contracts. There are plenty of other ways to fill a potential hole at center that don’t involve dealing LAF, Kakko, plus something else for a guy making $10m per. I get that there is risk and reward when talking about unproven teenagers, but I like our Cup chances much better by just staying the course.
  21. Agreed with this. Would rather go big (like someone to pair with Trouba longer term) than just fill a bottom 5/6 slot. We got some RFA guys, #22, and cap space.
  22. Agreed. But I would rather have LAF, whatever other substantial piece they are talking about, and the cap space.
