LindG1000
a first for Gio, yes. Gio in general. But to lose him to Seattle, to see Seattle gets assets is really bad too. Especially if its a first round pick This is fair though - we had a D spot, we obviously had the assets - if we end up paying Seattle a 1st instead of just engaging w/Calgary, that's frustrating. MuddyInTheMiddle
Working on the assumption that the Giordano rumor is true(and who knows if it is); does anyone have concerns about it potentially blocking the development of the glut of defense prospects that we currently have. The defense under that scenario would look something like below: Lingdren-Fox Giordano-Trouba Miller-Lundqvist Jones(or insert one of the prospects below) With the following prospects in the AHL: Schneider Roberston Rueanen Skinner Granted that it is unlikely that all of the young players and prospects will all make the team, considering that so many of them have relatively the same expiration date(Lundqvist, Jones, Scheider, Robertson, etc....), doesn't having Giordano in the lineup for 60-80 games come at a cost versus development of these players? It's proven that Trouba, Fox, Miller, and Lingdren can handle top 4 minutes and give the sheltered minutes of the #5 & 6 spots to the prospects. There are plenty of veteran defensemen that can be available through either free agency or a trade with Seattle via the expansion draft if the need is to supplement. Wouldn't signing someone like a Zach Bagosian, Alec Martinez, Braydon Coburn, or even Brendan Smith for 1-2.5 million make more sense for this role in that they can provide leadership(and all of that intangible stuff), but wouldn't be breaking the bank and much easier for one of the younger players to push out of the way as the season wore on? The exact opposite. Giordano is a veteran leader. The exact person you want all those prospects to be around during camp and any call ups. He has 1 year left. All those prospects are fine in the A for a year. They can then judge who if any of those kids are ready to take his spot, or bring him back for a 2nd cheaper year. josh
I think they'll have another big boy on the blue line, kid or get. Can't roll out Lindgren, Fox, Jones, Lundkvist against a team like the caps or Islanders . Too small.

Simple fact is we have too many D prospects. They're not all gonna make it. But the beauty of that is we can move them to upgrade elsewhere and this is exactly why you draft BPA and not for need. Also, the AHL exists for a reason. Just because these guys aren't in the NHL doesn't mean they're not developing. (if true) Gio is here for one year. He brings some stability to a team that completely shit their pants last year. Next year you see who's available to make the jump from the AHL to the NHL, if anyone. But the team is done icing the youngest team in hockey. They're trying to win games now. They have a real coach and some MEN in the lineup. This is how it goes. Rebuild's over. Phil
Moreover, the AHL is literally the best breeding ground for producing NHL players. Having a good minor league team is a good thing. That means having good players. Your players. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Because in your scenario Tampa loses Gourde and Palat/Killorn/Cernak. Not just Gourde. It's not apples to apples.

Scott
not sure we'll really know for a few days on how this all shakes out. Looks like they're focusing more on going cheap and having the cap space flexibility for today anyway.
