6 players on the ice at a time and no coaches? What? How does that prepare a team for a game?

    This is getting weirder.

    Fucking dumb.

If they really believe the threat is that serious that they need to impose these kinds of insane restrictions, then they shouldn't be doing this at all. IMO, it is just a half-ass measure to help avoid scrutiny.

    BTW...here's a link for phase 2: https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/...phase-2-return

The new protocols would allow for a maximum of six players to train at the team facilities at once. On-ice sessions are for players only, with no coaches or other team personnel allowed on the ice. Players must wear face coverings at all times, except when they are exercising or on the ice.

I think we're not getting full information here. I doubt these six-player skates are meant to be done in lieu of practices. Maybe optional skates, but how often are those really attended by significantly more than six players? Let's see what other information comes out.

Since the end of 2010, the Rangers are like 32-7 against the Hurricanes. I wonder how much that plays into their voting lol.

Thank you. So this effectively clarifies that phase two is more of a pre-training camp phase of sorts. So like normal pre-training camp skates, there are no formal practices with the team personnel. Seems pretty regular to me. I can't argue with any of the precautions the NHL and PA are taking of which there are many. They're being cautious about this despite the obvious ulterior motives, but they're not putting dollars over safety here.

chance to get in shape. A mini camp.

This is the true testing phase to see if the playoffs will happen or not. Better to test in small groups rather than hubs with 2-12 teams.

Included in the draft lottery will be the seven teams who are not involved in the 24-team playoff tournament, along with the eight teams eliminated in the ‘qualifying rounds.’

Since the initial phase of the lottery will take place before the 24-team tournament kicks off, the eight eliminated teams that will be featured will be represented by unassigned picks. The odds for the seven teams not in the tournament will be based on their point percentage for the 2019-20 season. If one of the eight unassigned picks ends up in top three, a second lottery draw will take place to determine which of the eliminated teams will pick there; their odds will be based on the inverse order of their regular season point percentage.

Someone in the comments of another blog post claims these are the odds:
Detroit Red Wings — (.275) 18.5 percent chance for No. 1 pick
    Ottawa Senators — (.437) 13.5 percent
Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks) — 11.5 percent
    Los Angeles Kings — (.457) 9.5 percent
    Anaheim Ducks — (.472) 8.5 percent
    New Jersey Devils — (.493) 7.5 percent
    Buffalo Sabres — (.493) 6.5 percent
    Qualifying Round Team A — 6.0 percent
    Qualifying Round Team B — 5.0 percent
    Qualifying Round Team C — 3.5 percent
    Qualifying Round Team D — 3.0 percent
    Qualifying Round Team E — 2.5 percent
    Qualifying Round Team F — 2.0 percent
    Qualifying Round Team G — 1.5 percent
    Qualifying Round Team H — 1.0 percent

The odds for each losing team in the Qualifying Round for the first drawing of the Second Phase, determined by inverse order of regular-season point percentage, will be as follows:

    Team A — 24.5 percent
    Team B — 20.4 percent
    Team C — 14.3 percent
    Team D — 12.2 percent
    Team E — 10.2 percent
    Team F — 8.2 percent
    Team G — 6.1 percent
    Team H — 4.1 percent
    Edit - Official NHL release
    https://www.nhl.com/news/2020-nhl-dr...re/c-317026602
The odds for the first lottery drawing are as follows (bottom-seven teams' point percentage in parentheses):

Detroit Red Wings -- (.275) 18.5 percent chance for No. 1 pick

    Ottawa Senators -- (.437) 13.5 percent

Ottawa Senators (from San Jose Sharks, .450) -- 11.5 percent

    Los Angeles Kings -- (.457) 9.5 percent

    Anaheim Ducks -- (.472) 8.5 percent

    New Jersey Devils -- (.493) 7.5 percent

    Buffalo Sabres -- (.493) 6.5 percent

    Qualifying Round Team A -- 6.0 percent

    Qualifying Round Team B -- 5.0 percent

    Qualifying Round Team C -- 3.5 percent

    Qualifying Round Team D -- 3.0 percent

    Qualifying Round Team E -- 2.5 percent

    Qualifying Round Team F -- 2.0 percent

    Qualifying Round Team G -- 1.5 percent

    Qualifying Round Team H -- 1.0 percent

New Jersey received better lottery odds than Buffalo because it had a worse regulation/overtime winning percentage (.348, compared to Buffalo's .406).

They really broke out the abacus for this draft lottery. Looks like the GMs who were surprised by a playoff berth in this didn't entirely like that idea as opposed to being in position to get a high pick. Also, if games don't start until late July, might not see a Stanley Cup awarded until late September/early October.

The NHL is being the NHL as usual. Taking something simple and making it way more complicated than it has to be.
