Rempe just has to play under control.

There are moments you pass up the big hit because the puck is already gone or the player is in a clearly vulnerable position where hitting him is going to turn into boarding or charging or something worse.

He's doing some good things for us, but I worry that the playoffs are not the best time for education.  Some of those lame penalties being called on him are going to result in PPGs against Carolina.

I agree with what you’re saying but the flip side coin to that argument is how does a guy who’s 7 feet tall skating that fast slow down and not check? When Rempe hits it’s a lot of force he can’t change that. Thats like telling a defensive lineman or linebacker going full speed to slow down the 1/2 second before he hits a QB while they are launching themselves at the QB. How is Rempe supposed to not be physical when everyone is goating him into a fight? Rempe has skated away from those idiots…. so far. I think his hits have gotten better ever since the 2nd time he hit the devils player (which was dirty). The first devil player he hit was fine. The devils player was a much shorter who just happened to line up  with Rempes elbow.  Just my opinion. I think Lavy and the coaching staff have a done a good job so far with the kid. Yes he has to pick his moments up hen and where to hit.

I can't remember which documentary I saw but one featured Bob Probert and his career as an enforcer.  In it someone said they asked Probert what the hardest hit he ever took was given that he was considered one of the most feared fighters/enforcers on the ice when he played.  Probert said the hardest hit he ever took was when he turned into someone's shoulder pads on a play and got knocked out from the accidental contact.  Point is, Rempe is so tall that even on a clean hit people are going to run into his elbow pads.

bunch of crybabies …. It was a legal hit even Wayne Gretzky said it was a legal hit on TNT… the whole TNT commentators thought it was legal. The NHL will not address this cause they even said there’s nothing wrong with the hit Rempe laid out. Nic Dowd capitals player is bitching about the hit. Tomorrow Rempe needs to be aware someone might take a run at him. Good luck crapitals. If Dowd wants to go at with Rempe, let him watch what happens. I’m thinking since the Capitals are whining about the hit and being down 3-0 they might take a cheap shot at Igor. If that’s the case, what does Lavy do? Get a lead wait until the 3rd period and have Rempe knock another person out. Fuck em!
LGR!!

one of my complaints about this Rangers team is that they don't do enough to protect their star players.  Opponents have been running into and over Igor all year and they run at Fox.  The Rangers as a team rarely muck-it-up when that happens and so Igor winds up defending himself - which is beyond weird to me.  Regardless, it looks like Rempe is in the Caps heads.  And that is a Ranger victory!

Yes I would agree. The Rangers finally have someone who fills that void. No disrespect to Trouba. Your description of muck it up after a cheap hit is accurate. Someone said in a previous post to hear 30 plus year olds on the capitals obsess/talk shit about a 21 year old kid is sad but also it tells me they are worried about him cause they know he’s a force to reckon with. The kid has such a big impact on the Rangers and the opposition has to adjust and they despise it!
LGR!!!
PS I recall the days when the Rangers were called “the smurfs” cause they were a small team. I think it was 1985.

Does Matt Rempe mind being the #NYRNHL_Rangers_2023.png villain? “I got no issue with it,” No. 73 said. “In New York, they love it when I’m playing hard. If we go on the road and they don’t like it, I mean, you’re playing hard, you’re playing physical. It’s good. I have no issue with that.”

The Rangers have won their last 12 games with Rempe in the lineup. The Rangers are 17-2-1 overall with Rempe in the lineup since he made his debut in the outdoor game Feb. 18. There is value there and it is palpable and the Rangers are riding his wave.

There is a lot of teaching being done behind the scenes you read it in every article. This guy is in the heads of everyone in the league from Bettman on down. You can see it every time he’s on the ice he’s practically got an escort from the referee.
The spillover effect on this team is the physicality you’re seeing from guys like Schneider will even Miller and Laf It’s a good problem to have I take it every day

Laf has always been physical.  He was grinding in the corners on the kid line for 2 seasons.

Now he's fast and physical and that's opened up a new perception of him.

With the Islanders extending the series the Rangers are in a really good position to take care of business and rest up while these two battle it out.

Great series. You can only beat the team in front of you and we did just that. Now the team needs to enjoy the rest and hope Carolina gets beat up more by the isles.

Yeah, I was just coming in to say this.

Really professional and a job well done.

Sure, this Caps team is about as bad a team you’ll ever face in the playoffs. The games weren’t played at proper playoff pace and ultimately we learned little from the series.

But historically the Rangers would always find a way to allow this to become a series. The fact they came in, did their jobs and swept the Caps without getting out of 2nd gear is a big positive for me. Tells you that their heads are screwed on right this time.

Woke up with a little extra pep in my step this morning! Something special is happening this year. Past teams might have let this series linger. Not this team.

While last night was not a great game from them, Rangers teams of the past probably lose that one and the series goes on longer than it should. I don't care how average the Caps may be, they went in there and took care of business. They showed me something. They've been finding ways to win all year when not having their best. That is what good teams do, and we have a good team.

The truth is that Ovechkin just looked old for most of the series, maybe all of it.

He was a glimpse into the problems we might have had if Wheeler and Bonino were sill around, albeit obviously a much better player.

This. He's old and slow. This is just what happens to guys when they get to this point. He went like half the season with eight goals, or something like that.

I don't think Ovi cared one fucking bit about that series.

He's got his ring

He's got his legacy

He's got his money

He's going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer

All he wants now is Gretzky's record, and he can't get that in the Playoffs.  He's got 2 seasons to score 41 goals....
We'll see you next season Ovi!
