Agree. The media is making more of this than anyone else.

It's not the "media," really. They're just covering an obvious story. We should probably take better care to differentiate OpEd pieces and basic news stories simply covering current events. Maybe it's just my experience, but it's more the fans than the "media" who make this more of a thing than it might be. Namely extremely online ones who take to their Twitter soap boxes every time this happens to scream about inequality and bigotry.

 

I'm not sure they're entirely wrong but it becomes self-fulfilling prophecy to act like it's the end of the world every time you're met with differing opinions. It's all very “if the only tool you have is a hammer, you tend to see every problem as a nail," behavior.
