We are in win now mode, coming off a conference final appearance. Why would we trade one of our highest regarded D prospects for a 2nd round pick, that will maybe have a 30%-40% chance to help us in 5 years, versus for an actual player that will help us now while our window is open?

Because.... the cap? I guess I should have said for a pick or an equivalent center prospect.

I hear nothing but good stuff about Robertson and I'd love to try him or Jones on the 3rd pair with Schneider. The fact that the Rangers D is already so young, with a coach who seems to favor vets, I just don't see it happening.  I don't think other teams see it happening either. In all reality Robertson is probably the Rangers 2nd 3rd or 4th best defensive prospect behind Schneider (no longer counting Miller), Jones and Lundkvist. I guess it depends on what you're looking for.  So a teams 2nd, 3rd or 4th best D prospect isn't going to knock many teams off their seat in trade negotiations,  when they know sooner or later the Rangers will probably have to move atleast 2 of these players out of sheer necessity to get value for assets they aren't able to use. I guess they have until the end of this season to sit on these guys, but I think their value decreases as teams realize the Rangers aren't interested in using them.

So, to rephrase:

I could see the Rangers moving some of these D prospects for 2nd round picks or a late 1st rounder, or a comparable (worth) center prospect.  Because that's what the Rangers can offer and that's pretty much all they can take back with their cap situation.

What would it take to get savoie, lekkerimaki, Gekie, Goucher, Beck, lambert or Goyette? And are they worth it?

I can’t even imagine the cost of a:

Haywood Jablowme,

Or an…,

I.P. Freely

Or God forbid, a

Mike Ockhurtz

The cost of a Claude Balls. I don’t even want to imagine.

Made me actually laugh. They are some of the better RW Centers in this class

Draft time was so exciting the past few years. This is a bit of a bummer.

Maybe we will find a diamond in the rough in the later rounds. Here is to hoping!

I think there's going to be a good deal of trading taking place. We should be in on some of that.

Chychrun in a package for 2OA? I know Chychrun is a good player on a bad team and NJ need D help badly, but seems steep. I guess it's a position of strength and immediate help since they don't need yet another 1OA center behind Hughes and Hischier.

Id be sending K'Andre to the Devils for 2OA, franchise center.

Doesnt make sense. The top 3 teams are exactly where they should be drafting - for the players expected to be drafted. Arizona should only be worried if NJ trades away that pick - but they should be taking Slaflolfskiy, who might be the perfect fit for the only hole they have in their future/prospects lineup

I agree, their wing situation is awful. But I feel like scoring wingers are more easy to acquire than a top-4 defenseman that's actually good at what they do. I can see the rationale from the Devils, but I'd want a much bigger package than Chychrun alone.

Graves

Smith

Hughes

I would not be surprised at all if the Rangers ended up with Devin Kaplan with their pick in Round 2.  Big, strong, very talented kid from NJ that plays on the USNDTP.  He's listed as a RW but I've seen him play C as a youth.
