The title of this thread made me think it was tonight, not that it matters for the rangers.

I thought “oh shit it’s this week?!?” Until I saw the date posted in the thread

We have four picks. Draft four centers please. Just keep throwing spaghetti at the wall and maybe we'll hit on one of them.

I agree and disagree. If you take the BPA, then you can trade that player down the line for a competent center. Such a crap shoot.

I agree, but as we have seen with our stocked cupboard of defensemen, the trade market is thin. Otherwise I think we would have ideal targets or have made a move.

I do wonder if Drury can't dump a few of his 23- and 24-year-old RFAs for some extra 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th-round picks.

Reunanen (24) was traded already. Gauthier (24), Gettinger (24), Ronning (24), and Hajek (24) come to mind. I also wonder what happens with Lundkvist (21) who is completely blocked from a meaningful role here.

3 defenseman and a goalie incoming.

Before the scouting bloodletting, I'd have said the reverse is probably true — three goalies and one defenseman (a RD, no less).

Most of those guys are probably going UFA, so I can't see much value coming from a team except for maybe Montreal really wanting Hajek. I would love to acquire more draft capital, I just don't think we have the spare parts to do it. Maybe a team wants to negotiate with Copp or Strome early.

They're years from UFA. Earliest would be UFA Group VI, unless they're expressly not qualified, which doesn't seem likely given how low all their QOs would be.

Fair, the QOs are low but they're all fodder at this point with no real value. Not worth much more than a late 5th to 7th. I don't mind taking more shots at the back end of the draft, but we do need somebody to play in Hartford next year if we do keep them.

I've said it a million times, but teams like Arizona would probably have real interest. They need bodies. Especially if they think any of these players are even boderline NHL players. The Coyotes, specifically, have six UFA forwards — none of whom are likely to return — and three more UFA forwards next year. They also have ten picks in this year's draft, nine in the following, and twelve in 2024. I don't think it's such a stretch to sell them on someone like Gauthier for a fourth- or fifth-round pick.

Problem is they need bodies that cost money. The cap floor is $61m, they're at $48m. You may be on to something. Package Gauthier and Nemeth?

No, they need bodies. Bodies that cost fake money are ideal, but they need players.

And yes, I've been saying Nemeth to Arizona for months. Provided AZ isn't on his list, I'm looking at them and Buffalo, specifically.

Lots to like about AZ, 100+ degrees of dry heat and playing in front of a few thousand every night if the house is packed.  That's the Pros I guess?? Cons they suck?  They shouldn't be on anybody's list. Ugh.

Stranger things have happened, hopefully this is one of them. Gauthier would look good out their. Who's their AHL affiliate just in case? 🙂

Yeah I'm thinking we see some "assets" moved for 6th and 7th round picks.

I'm looking at you Dryden "moose anus secretion" Hunt. Nemeth too.

But also wouldn't doubt they send Robertson or someone decent for a 2nd rounder. They are no doubt moving some of these D prospects and taking a loss on the return.

We are in win now mode, coming off a conference final appearance. Why would we trade one of our highest regarded D prospects for a 2nd round pick, that will maybe have a 30%-40% chance to help us in 5 years, versus for an actual player that will help us now while our window is open?

They won't, especially not an LD, where they can still use help. Lundkvist, though, I could absolutely see them buying more runway time on. He's completely blocked from a meaningful NHL role here despite likely feeling he's ready for the show. I think he's probably a valuable trade chip, either as part of a package to acquire a player, or even for another first-round pick if there's someone they really like later in the first-round around the same point Lundkvist was taken. In the same exact way that they moved up to snag Miller and Schneider.

Definitely not opposed to it, and we have the capital to make moves during the season. Just pointing out that his specific scenario didn't make much sense. Going to be hard to move up, but Lundkvist and the 63rd pick isn't nothing. I know all the scouting was done already, but with 4 picks and none high, as well as firing most of our scouts, how good are our reports for this year's crop?
