Agree. They should take a page out of MLB's book on how to manipulate a young man in his first years to keep control longer.

The 9 game rule only applies to contracts with slide eligibility for 18 and 19-year-old seasons. He's 20.

Contracts don't work remotely the same in the NHL as they do in MLB. There is no real manipulation you can get when all players hit UFA at 27 regardless.

He was wrong on that one. Contracts are reflective of September 15, same as draft eligibility age requirements. So they'd have had three seasons of ELC even if they had signed him next summer.

Right. The defense in the NHL and AHL is going to be wild next year. Schneider, and Robertson will both be in the AHL along with Skinner. Lundkvist likely joining the NHL corps with Jones. Reunanen will be somewhere.
