They could have signed him as a UFA over the summer.

Someone mentioned that Berube was taken by VGK in the expansion draft.

Some dumb Rangers blogger took this to mean the Rangers acquired him to be the goalie exposed in the expansion draft... that's in 2 years.

JF Berube was moved by the Phantoms/Flyers so they could bring up Ustimenko( 21 yr old Russian prospect?2017 3rd pick). McCollum and Zetter-Gossage their return were sent straight to the ECHL.

 

So apparently Berube?s contract keeps him from being sent to the ECHL so they moved him for McCollum so McCollum could be sent to the ECHL and they had to take Zetter-Gossage contract off our hands.
