nyckrash
It makes a lot of sense to structure the deals like this. Especially when a team is really up against the cap. - NYCKrash....LGR!!

josh
Surprised he would sign that. Nobody wanted to offersheet? Montreal did, that we know (?) of. He didnt sign. LindG1000
Surprised he would sign that. Nobody wanted to offersheet? Figure the offersheet teams are Minny, Columbus, Islanders? Are you leaving Tampa for ANY of those teams? Doubly so when you're making almost 7m a year in a tax free state, on what's sure to be a contract moving toward a QO in three years of around 10 million? Gravesy
Sensible deal for both parties. Point is going to be PAID in 3 years time, and a much better deal than what he could hope to get now.
Kevin
Montreal did, that we know (?) of. He didnt sign. Bugg
https://www.barstoolsports.com/chicago/i-want-the-nhl-to-investigate-the-tampa-bay-lightning-because-theyre-definitely-paying-players-under-the-table Basic idea-in addition to Florida's no tax state advantage, the contracts that TBL give out to their high end players all seem to be under market. Author may be an angry Blackhawk fan, but he does lay it out in detail. While TML and NYR sweat the cap, TBL seem completely unconcerned. Equally unconcerned, the evil mite of 6th Avenue and his minions. Recall 2 seasons ago when PP brought aboard Brassard with a crazy del with the Coyotes that clearly violated the spirit of the cap. Sod16
Less leverage, low taxes, I understand it all, but this still seems like a lower than expected figure given that stature of this player and the kind of contracts that others have been getting.
