Scott
Doesn't matter. It's one of the dumbest crowd chants in sports today. It needs to go away. agree 100%.
ThirtyONE
Do the garden fans know it's PotVIN who sucks and not PotVAN? Do they know he still comes to the Garden twice a year?
Phil
Do they know he still comes to the Garden twice a year? Do they even know what number he wore? Or that his first name isn't Felix?

ThirtyONE
Nobody is old enough for Felix Potvin let alone Denis. When I was a kid I thought it was about Felix and I was very confused.
Sod16
The chant is a tradition and a "kilroy was here" type marker for Rangers fans. The fact that Potvin retired over 30 years ago only adds to the irreverence and charm of the whole thing. It has a ribald absurdest edge to it that you don't see from fans outside New York in milquetoast land. I love the the chant and only wish its more expansive versions (Denny Potvin beats his wife, do-dah, do-dah, and Pot-VAN suh-hucks to the tune of Pop Goes the Weasel) would return. The Garden has lost almost all of its unique atmosphere and color, the chant is the last thing remaining. Anyway, there is no contemporary boogie man who raises as much ire as Potvin did to make the subject of a new chant.
Phil
You mean like Crosby, Malkin, Tom Wilson, John Tavares for the last decade, Ovechkin, etc? There's been plenty of opportunities. Almost all of them squandered. Because apparently Potvin sucks twice a game, and that's good enough to coast on for 31 years.
Fatfrancesa
How about Dolan sucks?
Phil
Dolan is irreleavnt. There are literally dozens of moments every year that can be siezed on for something as simple as a chant. The Garden crowd simply does not do this.

Fatfrancesa
They don’t do it anymore because the fans don’t go anymore. They have been priced out of the building. Potvin sucks will die eventually just as the atmosphere has. Msg is a dead building. There is nothing special about it. Famous yes, for the past. The only thing it’s famous for now is the suits and tourists that frequent the games.
Dunny
Yeah, you'll never get anything entertaining out of a purely corporate crowd. That's the real tragedy.
Mike
Yeah, you'll never get anything entertaining out of a purely corporate crowd. That's the real tragedy. Not so sure about that now. Corporate people now are more in tune with sports and surroundings than they were 20+ years ago, and they’re personalities are more assholish than those of the 80’s-90’s. Most in part to social media, some in part because they’re just arrogant assholes.
