To answer a question, we can send a 2020 7th rounder to legitimize the deal.

How about we really help. We'll take on Bobby Ryan (someone retaining 1-2 mil) plus some 1 year contract dump (Coburn?) for both Katchouk and Raddyish. One of them should become a 30 goal winger. Ryan doesn't look so bad considering the contracts given to 4th liners during FA.

It almost doesn't seem possible that Tampa can afford this. Yzerman is really the best GM in the league. They have three All-Star teams: their NHL roster, their AHL roster, and their prospect pool. Stacked everywhere, and somehow managing to keep it under the cap. Like even when we were in contention, we were right up against the cap with only one "star" forward to speak of: Rick Nash.

You would think that, just on paper alone, Tampa would be the last team that could afford to take on EK. I guess not.

They can't afford it. That's why it's so hard for them to make the trade.

For now. However they better win because in a few years they'll be the Blackhawks. This year they'd be stacked. The year after they'd be looking at about $45M tied up in 5 players: Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, McD, and Karlsson. In addition to us getting Hajek, Howden, and 2 picks, they're likely to give up more in this coming Karlsson trade. They'll have a great run this year, and a pretty good run the following year. Then it will be tough to keep it going, depending on how well the health and skill of those big 5 hold up.

That's not unexpected. What Canadian team would be attractive to him, especially since Toronto can't afford him? He needs a change and a move south of the border. The usual candidates like Dallas, Tampa, Vegas, maybe St Louis or one other club. Wonder how Karlsson's agent handles it?

Based on the comments to the tweet, all of the Canadian fan bases expected him. There was a rumor that Vancouver was in the mix, Jets fans thought they were contenders, Same with the Leafs, Edmonton has popped up in previous rumors.

Ha ha, bunch of knuckleheads not thinking on their own. Not you, you're just the messenger. Doubt the Jets were in on much. Trouba is not signing in Ottawa and the Sens aren't paying his ask. No way Karlsson goes to the mess in Montreal or the tundra of Edmonton, no matter how many rumors the fans/bloggers start. Vanc is rebuilding and has a way to go. Not a fit, hard to make a deal work.

He wants to compete now (with his ankle and experience he is old for his age) and get that US $, possibly in a low/no tax city. Canada offers cold high-taxed bad memories. There are 3-4 good US teams with young assets to make a trade, a reality. I'd imagine the agent is talking to 3 to 4 teams, why waste time. This needs to get moving.
