Phil
NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT shit out this morning at work. No matter what slot it's seated in, booting up with it in will result in a kernal panic. Defaulted back to the standard NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT for now, but this card has been spotty from the start, which is why I upgraded in the first place. Dollar isn't that much of an issue since this is for work. Needs to support dual DVI. Any suggestions?
Morphinity 2.0
I've heard good things about the Radeon 7870 in the $220 range - (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7870-review-benchmark,3148.html) - or the 7950 in the $310 range - (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-7950-overclock-crossfire-benchmark,3123.html). If you're partial to NVIDIA, then maybe look into a GTX 660 Ti in the $300 price range- (http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-660-ti-benchmark-review,3279-17.html). All of these cards are beast machines.
Dave
I'm sure you did, but did you try to remove the drivers for the old card and reboot, see if it still craps out using windows generic drivers?

Unless he dual boots, I think the kernel panic is from Mac OSX

Phil
I forgot to mention in the OP — it needs to support dual DVI.
Morphinity 2.0
I forgot to mention in the OP ? it needs to support dual DVI. I believe the ones I linked do that. Most modern cards do.
Phil
I believe the ones I linked do that. Most modern cards do. Not the Raedon. That had HDMI, etc. but only one DVI. My issue is making sure it's compatible with a MacPro1,1.

quick release
HDMI -> DVI adapter?
Art Panarini
Yes. They both produce hd video, but dvi does not integrate sound where as hdmi does.
quick release
Do you even get sound out of a video card, even if it's HDMI??

Phil
Gonna bump this one more time. I really haven't been able to find anything that anyone is championing in droves, so unless someone here can really rally behind one specific card, I'm probably just going to pick from a hat and hope it sticks.
