  1. Gauthier has incredibly rare tools, let's see what an actual coach can do with him.
  2. He did play a lot of center in college in his first couple seasons and was actually great on faceoffs. I would be surprised if he ended up playing an overly tough or physical brand of hockey though. I don't think he's that player. He'll be as tough and physical as Brian Boyle was.
  3. 8-8.5 would be a bargain for Mika. On Gauthier, I still really like him. He has such a great skill set and I think he's a great 4th liner because there isn't much passing or slick hockey on a 4th line so when you put a guy out there that can just lower his shoulder and take the puck to the net at will, it gives you a chance to get goals from that line without having to make pretty passes. I would love to see him get a chance with a coach here that actually gives him a chance.
  4. Trading Kravtsov would be a big mistake. He stepped into the NHL and was not only good on offense, but seemed to grasp the defensive side seamlessly already. You trade Buch because it saves you about $5 mil that you can then spend elsewhere.
  5. More on our next head coach... https://www.eurohockeyclubs.com/news/hallam-leads-v-xj-to-a-third-title
  6. Why do coaches have such a short shelf life in the NHL? Because all of the teams just keep hiring the same 10 or so guys over and over again and then act surprised when it doesn't work out. Give me new blood.
  7. Quinn was not though, he was forced and a very strange fit. Sheldon Keefe was the right guy last time and Gorton screwed it up. Part of the reason he's out of a job now.
  8. I mean there's no guarantee anybody will succeed, that why I think you hire the person and not the resume. Drury should see this, he just got his whole front office fired because half of the teams in the league wanted to pull him away from us and give him his first GM job because of who is and how smart he is so we handed him the whole organization.
  9. I don't have comparison for hockey, but I'm a huge Padres fan. They hired a first time Manager in Andy Green and he failed, was disliked by his players, they quit on him and was fired. Then last offseason they had to make the next hire. Everyone was pushing for a veteran replacement and Ron Washington and Tony LaRussa were at the top of the list. However we have a very bright and forward thinking GM and he went outside the box and hired Jayce Tingler, a coach nobody had heard of, who had only been an assistant and whose only managing experience came from the Dominican summer league. It was all based on his mind and the kind of person and leader he was. That has proven to be the correct move and it was done because he hired the guy who would use his players best, cared about analytics and would give his team the best chance to win. You hire based on who can win in the future, not who has won in the past because sports league are ever evolving and sometimes having won in the past can be a hinderance toward evolving along with the sport. Give me the smartest guy every time. I'll take Hallam or Knoblauch, not somebody who just got fired from someplace else for not getting it done.
  10. Exactly, so no balls. Hire the smartest and best coach. That's Hallam. If Drury was as smart as they say he is then that's the way he would go. Either that or Drury isn't really the one making the choice. However if he really is getting an interview then that means they see what he brings and he's a real candidate. Just because Quinn failed doesn't mean you get too scared to go back to the well.
  11. Hallam has 3 SHL championships in 7 years, coach of the year twice and when he took over his team it was just shortly after they had just been promoted from the lower league. He is the best hockey coach on the list hands down. I don't know if the rumor is real or not though. He would also be the most handsome coach in Rangers history.
  12. He should be the choice if they have any balls. Better that than these re-treads. Would change the game. Heavy into analytics and using his players properly and all about character. We zig while they zag. I hope at the very least he gets an assistant job.
  13. We have so much offense and such high octane defenseman and I can't believe people really want to bring in Torts. Better hope Fox wins the Norris this year because this will be his last chance for a while then. He'll be a 40-50 point Dman under Torts who gets yelled at for jumping into plays.
  14. And we now know he's capable of way more than that, so Torts clearly was not getting the most out of him. We're talking about the two years directly before he came to us and saw his production sky rocket. 1.05 points per game under Torts. 1.37 points per game the two seasons since leaving him.
  15. I don't get why Torts is an option. If these players didn't like Quinn, they will hate Torts. We have a bunch of Euros, Torts won't like them either.
  16. Let's hire the first Euro head coach. Give me Jukka Jalonen or preferably Rikard Gronborg. Tops the list.... https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/31421880/the-top-rising-candidates-nhl-coach-gm-jobs Knoblauch on there too btw.
  17. Just play the kids on D and re-sign Smith. He can play 4th line wing and then step in on D on the PK or late in games if a young guys is struggling. Smith brings toughness and can play both sides on D and wing.
  18. Yes, and he also sticks with his line combos and plays his best players more. We saw it in the games he coached.
  19. I'd like a Russian assistant, but Zubov and Kovalev just both got head coaching jobs in the KHL. Zubov would have been great for the D. We'll probably get Girardi and have our whole D laying down in front of the net.
  20. Good riddance! Every single person in the organization who had any responsibility for bringing in Jack Johnson is now officially gone and that's the way it should be. It was inexcusable and unprofessional. Glad to see they made it right. Coach should be Knoblauch. Drury was behind the bench coaching with him when they filled in and the team went off, so he should know that. If not him I would guess Tocchet.
