8.75 million left, plus 1 million for burying Beleskey.
10 million to resign Deangelo, Trouba, Buch, and Lemieux.
Is that correct?
If so, we're definitely dumping more assets.
Really just need to dump Namestnikov for a pick and probably bury Smith again. Thats another 5 million total freed up.

Trade Buch.
I want to see Buchnevich on a line with Panarin very badly. Feel like that's a perfect fit.
Kreider - Zibanejad - Kravtsov/Kakko
Panarin - Chytil - Buchnevich
Lemieux - Strome - Kravtsov/Kakko
Andersson - Howden - Fast
Adjust the kids as necessary. See who flourishes.

It really is amazing. Instead of using cap space on players like JT Miller and Kevin Hayes, there was able to use the space to sign a premier player in the league. Not enough can be said about the decisions Gorton has made throughout this entire process that started a couple years ago. Imagine having McDonagh, Hayes, and Miller contracts instead of Panarin and soon to be Trouba. That is such a drastic shift in talent. Nothing against McDonagh who I loved.

Under 12? Easy decision. I was at 11.5 myself, but I certainly wouldn't have quibbled over an extra 100k to get it done. Looks like Gorton felt the same way. He's a smart dude. What an awesome day!

If anyone is wondering where the line is, this is past it.
-
Stars made a wise choice with Pavelski/Perry over Zuccarello, while saving the 1st round pick.
-
Made me right though didn’t it. You argued against the rebuild. A letter appeared and you flipped. My opinion then was as popular as it is about panarin now. Once the rangers made the decision to rebuild all of a sudden everyone seemed to forget how stupid my argument was because they were all in. Same will happen here.
I really don't see anyone that thinks not getting Panarin would be a bad route to take. I think most here are good either way, with some having a preference for the Panarin route. You're the only poster I've seen here who is egotistical about your opinion on it.
-
And they're already better than last year's team (assuming the defense will get cleaned up). They'll win games and I think they'll even push to make the playoffs.
I also think the Rangers will bring in a few short term guys to help the development. They don't need Panarin to win, he just makes it slightly easier.
Here's a thought, if we lose out on Panarin is it possible to make a trade for Nylander?
I still would love Nylander. Almost more than Panarin because of his age and cap hit. 7m for a 23 year old 60 point center is actually very solid. If they need to shave even a little bit of space this season, then perhaps they would be interested in Kreider.
-
Thats a good deal for Pitt, gonna suck when the Rangers play Pitt now even more.
? Kessell is a much better player. It's good for Pitt from a standpoint that they relieve some cap space though.
-
Seriously odds are? You are advocating paying him $11-12m a year for 7 years. You think he should be better? He better be. The prospects you are hoping g he’s better than cost you league minimum. Is this a joke?
Lol we are talking 4 years from now when you think we will be cap strapped from all of our prospects making big bucks. Keep up.
-
Agreed. And that’s why tying yourself up with a contract that panarin is asking for makes no sense.
Nah. It's precisely why you sign him. Odds are he's better than most or all of our prospects ever will be, though I hold some optimism that one or two will turn out to be stars. I'll pay the money for high end talent.
-
So will the wing position as the rangers have far better prospects there. If your doing backflips then they do have a cap problem. If those prospects don’t work our adding panarin does nothing as this is still a bad team making signing him pointless other than to satisfy your need for satisfaction right now.
The center position is a complete unknown outside of one player. Of those unknowns none of them project to be more than a third line center at best case. If chytil is your answer than the pressures you are supposedly alleviating is all being transfered onto him.
The reality is that not all of the prospects will pan out and command high dollar contracts. It's also probably not reasonable to assume they all bust. Both of those scenarios are unrealistic as it will probably be somewhere in between. 1, maybe 2 if you're lucky, might be at that level where you have to pay them a high dollar contract. The others will be at some level ranging anywhere from bust to 2nd line player. Those are the guys you eventually move if you need cap space, because those are the guys that would never be as good as Panarin is.
-
Wait wut? We need a center?
Zibenajad
Chytil
Howden
Andersson
Nieves
Fontaine
Or...
Strome
Kakko
Kravtsov
Why do we need a center?
Bingo. The center position will work itself out. There's this false narrative that the Rangers won't have cap space to sign their prospects in 4 years, and all of whom supposedly will explode into franchise players and they won't all fit under the cap. If that happens, not only will I be doing backflips at our good fortune, but those guys will fill the holes that people are complaining. If it doesn't happen, then those guys won't get a ton of money and cap space really isn't a problem is it?
-
They will need every low cost player they have in 3-4 years. Trading them for an O?Reilly or duchene type requires cap space which they will not be in supply of
Not true.
-
SPooner and nichushkin on waivers for buyouts.
Spooner buyout effect cap hit?
According to caphit $300k cap hit for next 2 seasons
Spooner buyout saves the Rangers some money right?
-
Tell that to Minnesota about parise and suter. Praise by the way is another all ranger fans had to have for “free”. Thank fucking god he wanted to go home. Because you know what could possibly go wrong?
Parise wasn't the same elite player after the knee injury and they committed to him until he is at least 37. Panarin doesn't have either of those question marks.
Also, 7.5/year for a 60 point Parise hasn't been that bad a contract for the Wild honestly.

It's a German show. Very good.
If you like Stranger Things then you'll probably like this, as long as you don't mind subtitles.
-
Honestly 8 million doesn't get you a 1D anymore, so I'm not sure what the issue is if Trouba is just a very good 2D instead.
-
Trouba wasn't even the top RHD on his team. He's maybe, what, the 10th best RHD?
Off the top of my head...EK65, Doughty, Seth Jones, Brent Burns, John Carlson, Pietro, Shea Weber are all a tier above Trouba. Being the 8th best player at your position doesn't mean you aren't good, but it also doesn't mean that your contract comparables are the 7 guys ahead of you.
Now create a list from these players of who was available to sign or trade.
-
Unfortunately for Lehner, Trotz' system can make any goalie look great. It made even Greiss look great. No way he's worth the $$$, but he should grab it while he can.
-
agreed. almost to the point that i really don't care if we get Panarin or not. These kids have so much potential if everything breaks right we can be down right beastly in 2 years.
they were even touting Huska this morning on the radio, basically saying how deep we are in net. Have to think we can move one of those assets for a decent return in the next year or two.
I'm really hoping JD gets the right staff in place in Hartford. That's almost paramount at this point to what is going on at the Garden.
I really want Panarin, but the Rangers will be just fine if it doesn't happen. It's a great position to be in, where plan B makes pretty much as much sense as plan A.
-
anyone interested in looking at Anders Lee if this falls through? not the best skater but the dude's a beast.
He'll probably get paid more than Kreider.
-
If you are waiting for another Pietrangelo to give that money to, you'll be disappointed when one doesn't become available. Sometimes the next best thing will get paid similarly. It's up to the GM to find good deals at other positions (homegrown or otherwise) to offset the perceived overpayments.
-
The line has to be drawn somewhere. IMO drawing it at 11.5 is reasonable. If he passes, then you move on.

Didn't even really hear his name linked with other teams though. Seems like they kind of bid against themselves here.
