Bingo. Not sure what Quinn's master plan is here or if he even has one. Maybe he is doing what he feels is best for some of them. He'll either be a mad genius or a total failure at the end of it. Hopefully not too much time is wasted if it's the latter. Heavy criticism is currently deserved since it's a bit hard to reason through the decisions that have been made.

IMO DeAngelo has not been good enough to warrant moving over to the left side and supplanting Staal, if that's what you're getting at.

DeAngelo has been a trainwreck in his own zone again, that's why. I'm not sure why this fascination for him. I guess because he's confident with the puck. It doesn't make him a good defenseman.

This is a huge problem, and this exact scenario is why I wanted him on a 2 year bridge deal last summer. He's as average and inconsistent of a defenseman as he was when he signed the deal. He's a good skater and the Rangers banked on him improving the other aspects of his game. Here we are, still waiting for that progress to take place while we have to hope he isn't another anchor contract for the next 5 years. The lack of progress he has made is exacerbated by the fact he is still probably our best LHD. If I was Gorton, I'd be doing about anything I can to land a solid LHD for Kreider. It could be a 2nd pairing guy, just anyone more dependable defensively to stick with Trouba. See if Skjei can progress without the pressure of essentially needing to be the #1 LHD, because that's not what he is. Try to move on from Skjei if he doesn't progress this year.

Hopefully yes. Quite simply, Howden isn't an NHL player. Strome could maybe find a role on the 3rd line but would rather see Andersson given the minutes.

Buch handled the puck like a grenade the whole game, consistently making terrible decisions with the puck or losing it off his stick way too easily. His passes were frequently off the mark leading to turnovers. The last 2 games were polar opposite from the first 2 games, where I thought he held his own as a support player on that line.

Strome is having a terrible start to this year. Couldn't be going any worse for a guy who had all the opportunity to do some good things.

Might be a small play but worth noting. Had the puck along the boards with 2-3 Devils converging on him. He was able to find a soft spot to dump the puck behind the net which led to the whole sequence. Last year he coughs that puck up. No question.
