  1. Since 2013 OEL has had more than double the PP mins, consistently every year. It's sad he didn't score more than Trouba last year honestly.
  2. You generally score more on the PP than the PK. Trouba still outscored OEL.
  3. Panarin will get 75 easy. Hard to tell on Trouba in terms of what to expect for production. Depends on how he's used on the PP. Playing with Panarin/Zibanejad isn't all that much of a drop off from what Wheeler/Scheifele have been doing. If he's getting 250+ minutes of PP time like all other top pairing defensemen seem to get, he'll get 45 without an issue. If he doesn't, I would expect 30ish like Pete said. I'm guessing he doesn't get that much PP time because of all the hard minutes he logs on the PK.
  4. OEL had half the penalty kill minutes and almost double the PP minutes last year. We can talk about team talent, which is certainly valid, but let's not act like there is some monumentally wide gap between the two players. I'm not going to say I would rather have Trouba right now, because I wouldn't, but ask me again in 2 years when Trouba is 27 and OEL is 30. I think the contract separation between OEL and Trouba appropriately represents the gap between them and it's more than just the AAV. OEL got an extra year, more $$$, carried through to age 35 instead of 32 like Trouba (27-35 covers more non-prime years than 25-32), and has a full NMC the entirety of the contract. I don't know how large you think the gap is, but that's appropriate IMO.
  5. DeAngelo is a terrible defender in his own zone who has a knack for offense. He also lived in the doghouse because of maturity level. I wouldn't lose sleep if he's an odd man out.
  6. No. Timing, age, and injury history makes it not a good point at all.
  7. If the Rangers want to get rid of him after a year, then it means he didn't really live up to expectations. If he didn't live up to expectations, I'd have a hard time believing that contract is getting moved. So that no protection the first year kind of confuses me.
  8. There was a range that was rumored from everywhere I read (7ish-8), not an exact number. This is at the very top of that range. So yes, I'm a little surprised they couldn't work him down some. I find it hard to believe Trouba went in asking for more than 8 and worked his way down. I think the Rangers were forced to blink first here given the amount of moves they have yet to make.
  9. I am and I would hope the rest of the fanbase is good with it. Panarin is better than any option that will be available next summer, so it is still a no brainer to spend now and sit out next summer rather than the other way around.
  10. I don't think that's enough, and then you're below roster size. You could always bury Smith and then buyout Strome with next to no penalty. I know there are some that like Strome, but he's not really a long term solution for this team. And all of this buyout talk is assuming there are ZERO teams that want Namestnikov, Strome, or can't be talked or bribed into taking Smith or Shattenkirk with a B asset like you've already shown with the hypothetical Ottawa trade. Gorton's got options here.
  11. If you don't trade Smith, you'll still need to clear out a couple of million. Burying him isn't enough.
  12. He shared the Capfriendly link which shows it saves cap space this year at the expense of next year, but it also shows that the dead cap hit is absorbed quite easily next year.
  13. I'm taking the gorilla. If I'm going to die, I think I'd rather get my head bashed quick and knocked unconcious instead of the alternative of getting shredded open by claws and teeth. Worrying about "odds" here is like having better odds to hit the Powerball jackpot instead of the Mega Millions. Yeah, they're technically better, but does it really matter?
  14. Just to add to this, they are stuck with 80%+ minimum of the Shattenkirk hit whether they buy him out this year or next year, and obviously 100% of the hit if they keep him. If buying him out is the plan, it should just be done now. I don't buy the talk that once Shattenkirk's bonus is paid out next summer, teams will magically want him and the Rangers will be able to trade him. He'd have to have a good year, which is possible but not likely. The right decision really depends on the potential trades Gorton can make, and we don't know what they are. If it's terrible value, you have to buyout Shattenkirk. If it's decent to good value, you make the trades to free up the space. Something tells me the trades might have been made already if Gorton felt like it wasn't terrible value. Signs currently point to a Shattenkirk buyout unless that changes.
  15. Panarin was talked about wanting out of Columbus for over a year.
  16. I got sucked into a 3 month subscription of Showtime on Amazon Prime day. I plan to binge watch Ray Donovan and Billions. I'm behind the last couple of seasons of Homeland and one season on Shameless. Any other recs?
  17. Hawaiian pizza is worse than a kick to the nuts.
  18. And some of them will actually still be on an ELC for another year. Then you have another wave of guys who will have at least 2 ELC years left in K'Andre Miller and Lundkvist.
  19. You said the cap squeeze isn't going to stop lol. Check capfriendly and look at the money coming off in the next 2 years, then take a deep breath and rest easy knowing Gorton's got this.
  20. Your posts in this thread were in line with Brooks' "woe is me" tone. He pushed the overexaggeration button for clicks and out came the fans who are just waiting for it. This will be resolved in 2-3 weeks and nobody will remember Brooks' nonsense here, just like when he went insane with the cost for Trouba being Buchnevich, Lundkvist, and a 1st.
  21. Two weeks from the signing and shit is on fire because they haven't made any kneejerk reactionary decisions. The Rangers fan base folks
