@RJWantsTheCupRobbie, sorry I took your wings last night!

@Phil Phil, not sorry I just stole all these quotes!!  LOL

I want my Rempe fix.  I just can't see us changing anything yet.  I like him even just being on the bench...just in case.

I get the 5 minutes a game point, and I do think over time that may lean on more players exhaustion...I think this kid has to be a part of this with these guys.  Just his presence alone being there makes me feel good about this team.

Just in case of what? Someone runs Igor? Twice? Oh...gee.

Yes, we know his presence makes you feel good, because you're a throwback to the days of face punching. It's not hockey related whatsoever lol.

And I'm open to both this argument (of the fading effect) and the idea of replacing him with a player who can give you more minutes ... when they lose. Until then, I change nothing.

I can understand that point of view as well. It's not one that I share, but I get it. The team won something like 10 out of 12 games and they still moved Trouba to the 3rd pair. When the writing is on the wall, sometimes you don't need to actually suffer the L.

And again, for me it's not whether or not he's going to take a penalty that the hurricanes may or may not score on. This is now all about his deployment, or lack thereof.

The beauty of Rempe was his ability to take a (quasi) regular shift. The second he loses that, he's just another face punching goon that really doesn't have a role in today's game, especially in the playoffs against an opponent like Carolina.

Who cares? Is anyone on the team suffering because of this? If anything, the sideshow is providing value, because the crowd loves him and cheers for him every time he touches the ice. His presence alone, however infrequent, brings them into the game every time he does touch the ice. And the team feeds off that energy.

    All I see are positives.

Yeah, I mean The point you're echoing here is mine. I said it over and over again.

My point is that effect is now wavering. The crowd is not as in tune to him as in the beginning. It's starting to fade.

And PS, that effect we're talking about happened a whopping four times last night. Four.

So once again I will say if he's not going to play, there's no point in dressing him. He's not giving you that boost from the bench.

  4. I love Rempe, but I'm also a little exhausted of the sideshow. He gets almost as much press as anyone else on the team, meanwhile there are 3 Conn Smythe candidates playing on a team that just went 6-0 in the playoffs, and we're sitting here talking about a fourth liner who plays 5 minutes a game and has a 50/50 shot of getting kicked out.

I think everyone needs to move on. Whether or not he plays is completely inconsequential, and the less he plays the less anyone should care.

This is superstitious nonsense.  He has nothing to do with either win in this series.

I was on board with not changing the lineup until this game, if you're not going to play him there's no point in dressing him.

News flash: all teams shorten their bench in OT. Almost no one uses fourth liners, including good teams, like the Canes.

Rempe keeps playing until they lose.

It's not just the OT, and it's not just about this series.

Rempe had 4 shifts all game. I'm sorry, but that's just not sustainable because the players who are eating those minutes are the top players (Panarin, Tro, Zib) and if you have an opportunity to keep them fresh early, you should take it because we'll need them later.

If you're going to dress him, play him, otherwise what's the point of dressing him? If you don't think you can play him and trust the outcome, then you shouldn't be dressing him.

You've made two well-thought posts and I agree. And what it boils down to at the end of the day for me is, "what is Brodzinski giving you that Rempe doesn't?"

Skating ability? Not chasing hits? No phantom calls?

I'm sorry but I do take 10 mins of JB over 4 of Rempe.

I get the point, but I think as long as it's just one player it's no problem. It could be a big problem if we were to get an in-game injury or misconduct and suddenly play two players short.

Just to do some simple math on this. Let's say Brodz played last night and got some shifts in the 3rd and OT. I don't think he would play more than Kakko, so let's say Brodz got 10 minutes (more than the entire Canes 4th line). That's 6 minutes more than Rempe played. I've seen Kreids, Mika, Trocheck, Wennberg, Cuylle and Roslovic taking shifts on the 4th line - so it's like what.. 1 minute less per player? I can't see that making any difference, even in the long run.

I'm not opposed to the idea and I don't really care either way, but I just don't want to fuck with the mojo you know. We're 6-0 and we basically never lose with Rempe in the lineup. I'm not fucking with that for 8-10 minutes of Brodzinski.

I hear you, but it's not just about what they're doing versus Carolina this series.

Next series they're going to play either Florida or Boston whose fourth line plays around 9:00 or 10 minutes, and after that the team's out west are rolling 4 lines.

That's when you need to worry about fatigue because your top players are playing more than their top players.

Wennberg is solid defensive forward, but as you said, almost seems a little too defensive-minded, you know? I feel like he could probably do more on offense if he wanted to. The rare times I watched him play on Seattle, he could get a little creative.

When the puck is on his stick, it's like a magnet. His ability to keep the puck is insane, it just never amounts to any offense.

I'm leaning towards this as well. Trocheck doesn't look bothered at all and with the first round sweep we shouldn't have any problems with fatigue, at least not yet.

And it's not like shortening the bench in 3rd periods/OT's is something only done with Rempe. Carolina literally just rolled 3 lines the entire OT. Noesen played 06:48, Comtois 06:19 and Kotkaniemi 09:15. We had Rempe playing 4 minutes and no one else under 11:25 (Kakko).

Rotating Kreider/Zib/Trocheck/Wennberg/Cuylle on the 4th line with Goodrow and Vesey instead of Rempe late in 3rd periods and OT is no problem at all.

I don't even think Brodz would've seen the ice in the OT last night, so I don't see the point in adding him. Chytil or maybe even Wheeler I can understand, but we don't no Brodz here.

I Don't totally disagree with everything here, but Rempe didn't get a shift in the 3rd either... So practically an entire 2nd game played with 11 forwards. That may eventually take its toll.

Fatigue might not show up in game 6, but it could show up in game 16. Players make mistakes when they're tired.

I'm not 💯 sold on taking Rempe out, but there's definitely enough of an argument to make a case.

It looks to me like both Roslovic and Wennberg have really settled in with their new teams and have gotten comfortable. Prior to, they weren't necessarily terrible, but kind of 'meh'. They seem to be in a groove now.

Roslovic is dynamic, when he's skating.

Wennberg looks like he couldn't be less interested in trying to score. Every shift for that line you can be pretty sure that no pucks will be going in, their net or our net. The most low event hockey I've ever seen. Sometimes I think I can get up and go to the bathroom when that line is out and not miss anything.

Brodzinski is bad. He will turn the puck over because he thinks he's an offensive player, but he's just bad.

But he's a better hockey player than Rempe. The 4th line with was Rempe was consistently caved and couldn't play in Carolina Zone at all, which is the only thing that makes them valuable. They are certainly not a shutdown defensive group.

They need to play on the fore check and if they can't, then there's no value there.

Rempe doesn't scare anyone on the Canes, because nobody's going to fight him, and he's not going to go Tom Wilson crazy in the playoffs.

I’m not against the idea honestly but at the same time are we putting chytil in or brodzinski? Because honestly if it’s bro I rather keep Rempe in.

Brodzinski. And I wouldn't, if you're only going to play a guy 4 minutes he's worthless.

Brodz is JAG where Rempe sometimes can't be.

Now that we’ve won game 2 it only makes this harder but the guy played 4m in a double OT game and was pretty much ineffective. I think you make a swap for game 3 in Carolina bring him back if there’s a game 5 at home.

I agree with this. Going on the road is the time to swap him.
