It’s funny that we can’t enjoy and still want more.  I guess Trouba’s play can also remain status quo.

Last night was the first time Trouba has been on for a goal against in the playoffs.

Yeah, that pair had a horrific game, which at the end of the day cost the team nothing.

If you're always wanting more from a 6-0 team maybe it's time to re-evaluate your expectations.

200' PAG centre, wins draws like Peter Zezel, the other team hates him and his cap hit is almost negligible.

I've never liked the guy, but he is incredibly valuable.

He was the best contract in the league this year.

Brozinski was a 3rd liner in the same way Wheeler was a 1st liner and Bonino was a 3rd liner for awhile.

Not saying that Brodz doesn't put his best effort out there every shift because he does but he's a very good AHL player and there is no way he doesn't get exposed by the 'Canes at some point.

You just described Rempe, who's much worse at hockey than Brodz.

Laviolette was putting his main guys on extra shifts late before Rempe got here.   It's his MO to try to squeeze his best players for a bit more.

He's going to do that if Brodz is the 12th skater also.

The Canes skated 9 forwards in OT.

Yes, because he didn't have Wennberg and Roslovic to push guys down the lineup. Now, he shouldn't have to. Brodzinski was a 3rd liner for half the year, but now he can't be a regular 4th liner for a few games on the road? I don't buy that.

Yes the Canes played 9 forwards last night. I'm not talking about the Canes and I'm not talking about last night. Rempe playing 4 minutes a games is a big enough issue in a 60 minute game, it's even worse when he sits in a 2OT game after period 2.

He’s only ever played the left side.

And he’s played it oh so well… as a clutch performer.

Hes proven he’s a great player in his spot.

Hes proven he can easily play with great players.

But you need to keep him on his side.

He’s the player you never move.

Guentzel is one of the most underrated players in the NHL.

And has been for a number of years.

Name 10 left wingers who’ve been better than him over the last 5-6 seasons?

    You cant.

    No one can.

    Cause they don’t exist.

They exist. In the same world where Mika isn't good at setting up other players.

You really can't make this shit up.

Why do you care is the better question?

Don’t see the harm in analyzing the move after some time has passed. Drury has had many moves not work out for him, and the decision he made between Strome and Trocheck is one in the win column. Big win.

Why do you care what I care about is the better question?

Your love affair with me continues.

He was still a better and more complete player than Strome was.

Strome can’t win a faceoff to save his life, doesn’t kill penalties, and a stiff wind might knock him over.

    And I’m a fan of Strome’s.

But he was an upgrade last year.

    Hes an upgrade this year.

    Hes an upgrade ever.

I don't even understand why we're still talking about Strome.

Nobody complained about signing Trocheck over Strome on July 1. No one.

Last year Tro and Bread were oil and water so it was easy to wonder if they made a questionable choice. Now they found their chemistry.

This year he became the player everybody said he would be last year (but wasn't), so why are we still talking about a guy who hasn't been here in two seasons?

It hasn't been regular season Panarin (mainly because it's incredibly hard to maintain that level and pace in the playoffs), but it's not been anywhere near 2023 playoffs Panarin either. He's moving his feet, he's fighting for pucks, he's aggressive every time he has the puck and he shoots a lot.

He has 3 GWG's, 7 points and a +1 (been a minus player every playoffs as a Ranger) in 6 games. Last night he played over 32 minutes, 3 points and 4 hits (most by any Ranger forward!).

I was one of his biggest critics last summer and I spent most of the season saying "October is not April", but I'm happily eating crow now. He's doing it in May and I'm loving it.

All of this, and it's also a really odd time to be complaining about anybody on the team.

    They're undefeated in the playoffs.

Can they at least lose (once) before we start pointing fingers at players?

You might consider this splitting hairs, but moving a player down in the lineup isn't the same thing as removing them from it entirely. It's why the phrase "health bomb" exists.

I don't know what health bomb has to do with the conversation, but the point is you can make changes to a winning lineup and if you can demote your captain you can sit a plug.

You’re right, all secondary masterpieces - one was a blocked shot, Fox made an unbelievable play on another…

Roslovic has been more noticeable, let that one simmer

Panarin is similar box cars to Trocheck, and in most cases better metrics in all situations, yet one is talked about as Conn Smythe and you're ragging Panarin. WHo cares if a goal came off a blacked shot from a player who you complained didn't shoot the puck enough? The playoffs are about broken plays.

I think a lot of it is just your view of the player, which is not at all objective.

He had moments last season where yes he was head and shoulders above strome.

there were also times where I remembers saying I wish we had just kept Strome.

this year it’s not even close. Career year? Yea probbably. But if he puts up anything similar going forward he was absolutely the right signing.

It was always the right decision.

He just wasn't always good. Last year he was average at best. There's nothing wrong with acknowledging that, as he has already done so.

    This year's a different story.

  12. In a 2OT game Rempe played a season low (except for games he was kicked out of), and didn't see the ice for 2 and 1/2 periods after the second period.

Yes, I would agree that who the coach is playing is an indicator of what's working and what's not.

Brodzinsky is an AHL player...Chytil last played a game in what, November?

I'm all for leaving the Remper in there....I trust Lavvy to use him to the best of his ability.  The record with him in there isn't by accident.

Brodzinski was everyone's blue collar hero until Rempe and now he's just an AHL player? What is Rempe then?

That's just lazy Dude come on.

@RJWantsTheCupRobbie, sorry I took your wings last night!

@Phil Phil, not sorry I just stole all these quotes!!  LOL

I want my Rempe fix.  I just can't see us changing anything yet.  I like him even just being on the bench...just in case.

I get the 5 minutes a game point, and I do think over time that may lean on more players exhaustion...I think this kid has to be a part of this with these guys.  Just his presence alone being there makes me feel good about this team.

Just in case of what? Someone runs Igor? Twice? Oh...gee.

Yes, we know his presence makes you feel good, because you're a throwback to the days of face punching. It's not hockey related whatsoever lol.

And I'm open to both this argument (of the fading effect) and the idea of replacing him with a player who can give you more minutes ... when they lose. Until then, I change nothing.

I can understand that point of view as well. It's not one that I share, but I get it. The team won something like 10 out of 12 games and they still moved Trouba to the 3rd pair. When the writing is on the wall, sometimes you don't need to actually suffer the L.

And again, for me it's not whether or not he's going to take a penalty that the hurricanes may or may not score on. This is now all about his deployment, or lack thereof.

The beauty of Rempe was his ability to take a (quasi) regular shift. The second he loses that, he's just another face punching goon that really doesn't have a role in today's game, especially in the playoffs against an opponent like Carolina.
