I'm not ready to quit on them because we saw this same shit show toward the middle of the season and they turned it around after the all star break. All things considered right now someone needs to remind these kids that people are paying a lot of money between tickets and food to watch them "play" hockey. The people in the stands do not care if they made the playoffs or not. they want to see them win... “The reporter asked, "why did you play so hard." "Because there might have been somebody in the stands today who'd never seen me play before, and might never see me again" -Joe DiMaggio” ― Joe DiMaggio

you can't win unless you can score goals no matter how much better of a team you are. the Rangers have had some high quality opportunities and I don't think the Islander goalie is that good. Poor shot selection and at one point at the beginning of the game it looked like they were trying to get the puck to Panarin too much. Maybe we are all missing the point. They are in the playoffs and they need to be healthy. The last game with the Islanders Kreider took a slapshot off his thigh, Trouchek was faceplanted into the boards and Mika ran into a shoulder pad.

Hate to comment on my own post but after going through the comments I just want to add that I don't live in the New York area and all I expect is at least one or two articles on sports pages that at a minimum point out the Rangers successes this year going down the stretch - even if the Rangers crashed last year and are an anomally in the statistics.

I've been saying all along that Rempe needs to be on the bench if not in the game. Lavi being angry, etc. is meaningless because he knows that the playoffs are vicious and the refs don't call penalties with any regularity. The Rangers learned 2 things tonight: you can't start a game thinking you already won, especially against these desperate teams; and you have to play with a physical edge and presence that they don't have when Rempe is not in the lineup. No whining now, just play the game hard through the end.

I live outside of New York. I'm a news junky and a long time Ranger fan since 1971 when we got cable TV in our Long Island community. I've subscribed to one version of NHL hockey or another over the years so I can watch the Rangers when they play. This year I've watched the Rangers storm through the season, overcome adversity with injuries to top players, and I've been a critic on this board - rightly or wrongly (probably mostly wrongly); I've watched personal and team records be attained nightly, especially as of this past week. Yet, with all of the things happening, the only "top of the fold" coverage the Rangers seem to get nationally involves the fights Rempe has or the team had against New Jersey the other night. In all of my years of watching the Rangers this is the first year where I feel that the national sports media is missing the stories and disrespecting my team - the number one team in the NHL. Today I scrolled through Google Sports after a milestone win and more personal records were set last night. There were articles on the Bruins, Blackhawks, Capitals, Devils, Islanders, Red Wings, Flyers, Avalanche and the Blues to name a few teams. There were article on Carlson, Wyatt Johnston, Tortorella, Werenski, to name a few players/coaches. They all deserve some attention, but I could not find a single article on the Rangers team or players until I scrolled all the way down past the other "top stories." Yahoo Sports was a little better, but not by much, today. AP Sports had two Ranger articles as numbers 3 and 4 of their top stories after the Stars, Blues and Predators. The Score had nothing on the Rangers except for a short video of the great Zibanejad to Panarin goal from last night. In fact, this year I have to google the Rangers just to get summaries of most games along with players' and coachs' quotes, etc. from the local New York papers. But the coverage of the other teams - teams with losing records and their players - has been abundant to the point of nauseating. Over the years the number one team in the NHL, their players and their coaches, were covered as top stories regardless of the news source. Not this year; and it is really pissing me off. This is the Rangers year. From the front office to the bench, lines one to four, defensive pairings from one to three, goalies one and two, and healthy scratches whoever they may be. As the season winds down they are getting little to no respect for their accomplishments. And it pisses me off. I'll take the President's Trophy and the Stanley Cup this year but mostly what I want is for the Rangers to stomp the shit out of their opponents along the way. And, as they are doing the stomping, I want them to do the "Muhammed Ali to Ernie Terrell" shuffle on the press by asking "what's my name" as they pummel their opponents.

GDT [RS] (#77) Rangers @ Detroit Red Wings — Post Line Brawl Afterglow
Steve replied to Morphinity 2.0's topic in New York Rangers
you gotta give Laviolette a lot of credit for putting the right lines out tonight at the right time. -
Laviolette got out coached on that first fight. NJ coach knew what he was doing. Rangers would have been smarter to back away at the drop of the puck - especially Trouba and Miller. Like I've been saying, the refs are not calling these fights according to the rules everyone agreed to years ago. I don't care but 91 should get a match penalty for starting the fight. And he does. Now let's see how this works.

GDT [RS] (#75) Rangers vs. Pittsburgh Penguins — Trouba Is Risen
Steve replied to High and Wide's topic in New York Rangers
Rangers are suffering from too much depth and talent right now. Trouba needs ice team to get ready for the playoffs but he may actually still be injured. That said, Rempe is the only piece of the puzzle the Rangers need right that brings the physical dirt the Rangers will need to win. Just having him on the bench is enough to keep opponents from bumping and poking Igor or running at Fox. I'm old school on the physical part of the game. The skill players need someone to help give them room and Rempe is the only player on the team with that presence even if he just rides the bench. As for the penalties Rempe takes - let's face it, the refs are inconsistent at best and the value of his presense far exceeds the cost. Igor should not ever have to cross check anyone to get them out of his way like he did Crosby without a Ranger coming to his defense even if it means dropping the gloves with Crosby. Opponents do these things to the Rangers because they know the Rangers won't do anything material about it. You can't win in the playoffs like this... -

any time I see a game called this poorly I wonder if the refs are gambling on the game. on the other hand, who do the Rangers play IF pittsburgh makes the playoffs? -

Trouba - Miller pairing looks lost tonight. I think Rhuwedel paired nicely with Zac Jones. I actually like Rhuwedel. He's a solid defenseman. -

sloppy game. no reason why igor has to defend himself with no support or follow up by any single ranger! totally unheard of and a terrible sign if this is how they are going to play and defend themselves when the playoffs start. this is where Rempe is needed. the rangers are deep in every part of the game but the dirty part. teams that win in the playoffs and go deep have a physical dirty edge that includes backing each other up - especially the goalies and star players. very frustrating to watch
