Injury Report Filip Chytil Out With Suspected Concussion
Flynn replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Her primary dr told us about a patient of his who was a world ranked judo guy.. Had a handful of concussions as a younger guy but they never really impacted his career.. Hung them up as he was getting old.. some time later in his life the guy had a violent sneeze, snapped his head back and had concussion symptoms for a year. You never know what will happen. There are also 5 or 6 different kinds under most classifications (although there are some specialists who think there might be as many as 12-15 concussion variants). The type can be just as impactful as the blunt force. -

I had a whole bunch of data and a few links I was going to post.. But fuck it.. Go look it up yourself, perhaps you can learn something. My kid had 2 her Freshman year.. Say out 9 months and got cleared to play and wanted to give it one more shot.. Soph year 1st game back, delivered a fairly solid blow- nothing.. Couple game later she got blindsided and trucked.. Nothing.. Went two full seasons, and two full seasons of summer travel ball dishing it out and taking shots (lacrosse defender). Practice during Senior pre- season conditioning, an errant ball lollypopped across the field grazes her chin, no violent impact, just a quick head snap. took 10 months to get rid of the symptoms. Every concussion has its own story and recovery path- there are "norms" but they are snowflakes, everyone is a little different in terms of impact and recovery. Labels aren't fair when it cones to concussions as they are wildly different animals. -

The general lack of informed takes on how concussions occur and how they actually work is both astonishing, and totally expected. -

What a shitshow. Watched it when I got home last night.. Stapling my scrotum to my thigh would have been a better use of my time. Halak was really bad, bigger holes than Hope Solo.. He should have a really short leash, another stinker and they should call up Louie Egg Foo Young. I'd also like to see Captain Trouba.. You know, actually do some Captain shit in regards to a defensive effort from he and his fellow defenders. The collective defensive effort the last few would embarrass the French Army circa 1939. Its early, but the returns aren't promising.. Two days off, following a loss and you have that kind of effort? Jesus H. -

I’m no expert. But 14-1 in shots, with Jimmy Vasectomy having the 1 - is suboptimal -

All this Sam slander will not be tolerated. Sam is a doddering old fool… But he’s our doddering old fool.. Are you honestly telling we don’t deserve a Game 6 of the SCF, Rangers on the brink and we get an odd man rush with a tic tac toe finish only to hear: Rosen: “Chytil! Chytil!! Chytil!!!… It’s Filip Chytil and the New York Rangers are Stanley Cup Champions!!!!” Micheletti: “Sam, I believe that was Alexis Lafrenière” -

The Athletic New York Rangers 2022-23 Season Preview
Flynn replied to Flynn's topic in New York Rangers
I think the 2021-22 season provides plenty of evidence.. His preseason rankings weren't promising.. but despite winning games at an impressive clip all year, his in season critiques were always laden with huge caveats, indicating those trends wouldn't work in the playoffs.. The team wildly out performed his expectations.. and the great takeaway was that you can't rely on your goalie to save your ass. To which I ask- why the hell not? I'll die on the hill that analytics are a key consideration,. but not the end all be all.. Moneyball only worked when the Red Sox had the best players in the game. I can't lie and say his presentation and delivery don't piss me off more than the content. -
My guy Dom Lusczyzischzhyn is back!!!!!! https://theathletic.com/3634149/2022/09/28/rangers-2022-23-season-preview/ Long story short- Analytics nerds don't like the Rangers. The Athletic has the squad pegged at #16 in the league. And I'll be fair at least, they started out acknowledging the relative punitive nature of their ranking: BUT.... I don't know why these style reviews irritate me, but they do. Models that take a 3 or 4 year lookback to inform a predictive foundation are fine... but these same models don't allow for a growth component. So for a team that does have a substantial segment of youth.. they are going to be shit in these models until they aren't. You are better to have long proven mediocrity in these models rather than untapped or growing performance. To save you all a lot of reading.. Panarin didn't play well, Zib's underlying numbers slumped. The Bottom 6 is one of the worst in the NHL. The Kid Line needs to grow up. And can Shesty do it again? That's basically your 22-23 Rangers. If Dom Luszyzyzyzschyn didn't have such a smarmy punchable face these wouldn't irritate me so much. Thankfully games are played on the ice and not via nerd.com modeling.
