Got my whiskey, a good cigar, and I'm ready for all 5 phases that come with a Rangers game -

1 - excitement ("LFGR!" - pregame)

2 - optimism ("they look good!" - 1st period)

3 - bewilderment ("what was that??" - 2nd period)

4 - anger - ("what. The actual. Fuck?" - 3rd period)

5 depression - ("this season's already over" - post game)

LFGR!!!

Sadly, going with 3. Not sure what this says about me or faith in the team early on.

Hasn't Duclair been injured like every season he's played? At least, it feels like that.

I think I'm more excited to watch that 3rd line than anything else.

My heart says "no, and we absolutely should not". But my brain says "this sounds exactly like a Rangers move".

There's another Carlson in the draft. 

How many Carlsons/Karlsons is too many?

Not gonna lie - I had to look that name up.

We are spending a lot of time talking about which available candidate has done the most, or comparing playoff records, etc.....but do we know which candidate has done the best with a roster similar to the Rangers? (I admittedly do not know, thus the reason I'm genuinely asking)
The Rangers are still, I believe, in Win Now mode, and we'll see very little change to the current roster once you subtract Tank and Kane. So who fits that scenario the best?

Ramsay being let go, Quenneville being re-evaluated to start coaching again.........is there a tie-in here?

I posted in another thread, listen to Mercogliano's latest pod. He basically said that in year 1 Gallant's hands-off approach was a breath of fresh air, but by year 2 many players felt it was too hands-off, they needed help, and he didn't have it.

Is there a link to the player exit interviews? I've heard it mentioned a few times that they didn't have anything good to say, but haven't seen what was actually said.

Yup, agreed. I got so frustrated this season when he'd switch the lines for a few games, saw success, then the team has one off game and he went right back to the same old same old. Whether it was Kreids/Tro or Zib/Kakko. 

Personally would love to see Pan/Zib/Kakko, and Kreids/Tro/Vesey. IMO that gives you 2 decent lines, with 2 different styles (Line 1 skill, line 2 north/south), which should make the team harder to play against.

Please, FFS, give these lines more than 5 games to gel.

I don't even know wtf they're doing anymore. We were so worried about the defense before entering the playoffs, and had supreme confidence in scoring. Now the defense has stepped up and we can't buy a goal. And the response from the team after each loss is "we played a good game". Are we watching the same thing?? I don't think I've ever been this frustrated during a playoff series before.

Rangers win in OT 5-4.

Though I really hope it doesn't go to OT.

Or we allow 4 goals.

Sticking with the game plan and not watching the game - how we looking so far?

HOWEVER.... They have sured up defense in ways I didn't think this squad was capable of. Blocking shots, being in passing lanes, tying up sticks in front. Swarming the entry into the zone. The product is definitely due to some real next level play by these guys. They are hitting and playing heavier than they have all season. Gotta give props where props are due. I'm not saying the load will get easier but I can say, Boston is the only team I'm concerned with if this play keeps up.

Honestly, the defense has been what's surprised me the most so far. I haven't watched the games, so not sure if we're legitimately playing better, or the Devils just aren't challenging as much? All I know is when I follow the GDT and don't watch the game, you guys are usually pretty good at pointing out who's lacking, and I've been hearing way less of that the past 2 games. So I'll take it as a positive.

Exciting and frustrating at the same time. On the one hand, another dominant win and we're going back to the Garden! On the other, I've avoided watching the past 2 games, and we won them both. So help me, if they win the cup and I have to miss every damn playoff game..........

I missed the last game, and we won convincingly. No way in hell am I going to jinx that, so I'll be following this thread like a hawk. Don't let me down, Brotherhood!

I'm still not fully convinced Kane is on the right line. I think Pete mentioned at one point that Kane doesn't seem to be clicking on that 2nd line, and I tend to agree. Not sure if it's too late to go tinkering with the lines, but would love to see Pan-Zib-Kane, and Kreids-Tro-Tank. Two highly skilled lines that play different styles. 

I like Vesey for it, but could see Trouba getting it for the "helmet throw".
