I gotta say, this kid may offer up a solution where we may not have to go out and get a whole lot at the deadline.  I'd like to see him play against a little stiffer competition now.  I'm glued for Saturday night!

Would love to see more of him, but on the LW seems like you have to relegate either him or Cuylle to the 4th line, which isn't ideal. Wish one of them could switch to RW. Those 2 on the same line with a decent center would be fun to watch.

The purpose here is to make the equivalent deadline trades with today's team as the 93/94 cup winning team.

Tony Amonte to the Chicago Blackhawks for Stephan Matteau and Brian Noonan= Brennan Othmann to the Chicago Blackhawks for Tyler Johnson and Nick Foligno

Mike Gartner to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Glenn Anderson= Mika Zibanejad to the Toronto Maple Leafs for John Tavares

Todd Marchant to the Edmonton Oilers for Craig MacTavish= Will Cuylle to the Edmonton Oilers for Sam Gagner

I tried to do this current trade with the same teams as 93/94 which proved a bit futile because those rosters are kind of void of the equivalence however I think for what was available, this is pretty close. It doesn't have to be the same teams; let's see the explanations for other players around the league as well.

Those current trades make me throw up in my mouth a little........

  3. There was a thread the other day about which player has surprised people the most thus far, and I picked Laf. But if the question would've been much broader, like "what has surprised you the most about this years Rangers team", I easily would've went with coaching. From our faceoff dominance, to a clear defensive structure (I think we're like 3rd or 4th in that department?), to special teams.......it had been an absolute treat to watch them play this year. Sure, there's still times where they start flailing around in the D zone and just trying to chip the puck out that makes me cringe, and there's still work to be done when it comes to playing a full 60 minutes that need to be fixed. But overall, when they're on, it's exciting to watch. Crisp passes out of the zone, more shots on goal, when they drop back into the 1-3-1 defensive scheme, all of it.

And the best part is that Lav, for the most part, KEEPS THE LINES TOGETHER!!! That drove me nuts for the past few coaches, the constant line juggling.

I think I've seen enough of Panarin / Zib to know that while it's not terrible, it could be better. Maybe it would be with Panarin's new mindset, but I'm not sure.

When the team is healthy I'd really go back to some things we saw work already, and some experiments.

    Cuylle Zib Kakko

    Panarin Chytil Laf

    Kreider Tro Vesey

    Goodrow Bonino Wheeler/Pitlick

I would totally be okay with this, been pushing to try breaking up Kreid/Zib since the start of last season.

And that 3rd line makes me tingly......

    Meh.

I expected Wheeler to be put on line 1.  Thats a good move. But keep Bonino on the 4th line. He's too slow. He's really good defensively,  but I'd rather Goodrow be Kakkos center until Trocheck gets pushed back down to 3C.

No matter what, I think this is going to get production out of Kakko. He just didn't fit with 20/93.

Just thinking the same thing - Wheeler on that 1st line is worth a shot. Maybe he can set up Mika, or throw shots at the net for Kreids to scoop in......dunno, anything to get them going.

Also not a fan of Bonino on the 3rd line, he's too slow and I think Goody would've been a better anchor for Kakko & Cuylle, in terms of slightly more energy & speed.

As much as Fox means to this team Chytil being out worries me more.  Rangers have zero center depth.  Trochek/Panarin doesn't work and who is a top 6 center even for just short term?

Was just thinking the same - Chytil out is a huge hit. Tro-Panarin do not work, I would imagine even more so with the scheme Lavvy has them playing. Your backups are......Goodrow and Brodz? Not confidence-inspiring at all.

From what I've been seeing, Zibby's line gets the chances, they just aren't hitting the net.  And how many twigs has Zibby snapped on a few of his chances already?  My count is at 5!  LOL

I like the balance of the lines so far.  I think it's going to get a lot better as we play more games and get adjusted to the forecheck and defensive coverage structure.

Agreed, liking the lines and the fact that Lavi isn't throwing them into a blender every period like GG was fond of. Give them time to develope chemistry.

Anyone else wanna see Vesey in that 3rd line RW spot? Give those guys some speed and fire. Vesey wants to be in the lineup. Id make that move in a heartbeat even if it's only for a game.

I just want him in period. I know it's only 3 games, but I felt like he played better than either Bonino or Pitlick in the 1 game he played.

I never thought I'd be rooting for a Vesey sighting but here we are..........
