Wild Re-sign Mats Zuccarello to 2-year/$8.25m Extension; $4.125m AAV
Sod16 replied to Phil's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
Frankly, when he was dispatched in 2018, I never would have thought that he would be signing a very solid contract extension five and a half years later. Good for him. -
What's his order, chicken with pea pods?

Did the Rangers Make a Mistake Letting Mats Zuccarello Go?
Sod16 replied to MuddyInTheMiddle's topic in New York Rangers
Re-signing him wasn't even considered at the time. Given his age and the status of the team in rebuild, it wasn't a close calle. If he has thrived with the Thrill, he might also have with Bread, provided there was a third linemate willing to shoot. -
Here's the photo of Nelson Rockefeller that the Av's GM faxed to Neil Smith when they matched the offer.

Joonas Donskoi Retires After Just 7 NHL Seasons Due to Concussions

Anyone who's had enough concussions to consider retiring should retire. -
The top 10 picks have been uniformly bad, although Kakko and LaF don't count. Later 1st Round picks have been good if you compare them to the percentage of success for picks at those slots. It's worth remembering that these picks were made by totally different personnel. Slats seemed to have nothing to do with it and deferred to scouts. I think Blackburn would have been a good one. When you analyze a pick, I don't think it's fair to go beyond the five players selected immediately thereafter. It's not realistic to hold out a player picked significantly later. Heck, you can condemn every pick made in the entire draft when Panarin or MSL were available if you want to go that route.

The Artemi Panarin Story, ie "Full Metal Jacket II"
-
Ethan Sears behind paywall? C'mon! The guy usually just idly scribbles about non-events out Elmont way. I question Panarin for shaving his head and firing a gun. Makes him one step closer to being a conscript! Chytil has been around almost as long as Zib and CK. Top six already, okay.

There seem to be photos of every eventual NHL great playing U8, typically with a jersey that goes down to his ankles. -
QMJHL Officially Bans Fighting Beginning This Coming Season
Sod16 replied to Phil's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
Bare knuckle fighting in a league with 16 year olds = preposterous. I can't stand the state of fighting in the NHL today, with ridiculous auto fights everytime there is a clean legal body check. It's predictable and dumb. I've seen the stats, and do you realize that in the pre expansion days of "old time hockey" there were a small percentage of the fights per game that came thereafter? Fighting may be down from the 70s and 80s, but it's still up from the 50s and 60s. Yes, all sorts of players have gotten CTE, but the incidence among enforcers is the highest. I don't think anyone could read the NYT extended piece on the life and death of Derek Boogard and still think it should be part of the game. I was involved in the legal representation of the Boogard family at one point, and I can't tell you how heartbreaking dealing with his father was. -
What Is Ryan Lindgren's Future as a Ranger?
Sod16 replied to RJWantsTheCup's topic in New York Rangers
As stated, $5m is a starting point. Pellech and Pulluck contracts are comparables. This is a first unit D man who does his job and makes his star partner better. I don't know how someone who actually gets paid to write about hockey thinks such a player can get signed for $4m or even less. -
Do the Rangers Still Win in '94 if They Got Lindros in '92?
Sod16 replied to Rangers1994's topic in New York Rangers
It's worth remembering how Messier destroyed the opposition with Gretzky as the first center in 95-96. He was on track for over 50 goals before getting hurt and finishing with 47. In his short-lived prime, Lindros was the size of a bull with the hands of a Dennis Savard. Unstoppable. -

Brooks Why Rangers Should Consider Even More Thrifty Roster Additions
Sod16 replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
What cap space do we have for such a signing after LaF is inked? "Malice aforethought"? That's legal terminology for common law first degree murder. Are there any murderers out there available on the cheap? -

Sod16 replied to Rangers1994's topic in New York Rangers
Lindros's tenure as a superstar was short, but a superstar he was, and the Rangers would have won a cup with him. The Nords would have taken Richter over Beezer, but Beezer was plenty good, good enough to lead an expansion team to the finals in 1996. It's possible that the Rangers would have been too top heavy for a cup with Lindros, but Lindros, Mess, Graves and Leetch, all in their primes, is a cup winner most likely. I'll never forget that name, Larry Bertuzzi. -

Who has the week it would take to look at all of the contracts involved and determine who does well by this trade?
