Pete, are you really saying this was that bad? Skater was beginning to hold up a bit just before the hit. The bad part was that he was looking the other way but the rest of his body was squared to the hit. I'm not a head-shot fan certainly, but this is more of an unfortunate hockey play result than bad intent IMO.

I?m not so sure this will be Broad St. Bullies hockey of yore but it should create some spirited matches and a stirring of bad blood between teams seeing each other so often.

NBA appears to have gotten this right! A small ad on every jersey sold is way bigger than a helmet ad and if it's done like the NBA example above, would be a win-win for the NHL and fans. From afar the ad is not effective, but so often, the player is shown in close-up mode that the ad gets prime screen time and intimate viewing. Yeah, advertisers will pay a lot for that.

I don't mind that helmet look as it's pretty innocuous and blends right in nicely. Over-done jerseys? Embedded company logos in the ice next? Be careful with that because not only is it distracting, it can get downright ugly too.
