so you think Richter was a better goalie than Hank? or Cam Ward? or Corey Crawford? or Matt Murray? they all won the cup.
i think in general you could be a better goalie just by having better stats. Winning the cup is a team achievement.
But
my OP stated that Shesty does not have Hank's longevity and experience, therefore you cant go by records throughout careers. We've watched Hank for 15 years and couple of seasons of Shesty, who do you think is a better goaltender? IMO apart from getting hurt every couple of months, Shesty is a better, more acrobatic and more athletic goalie.
Hanks the best goalie to ever play for the Rangers. Like I said, on a game to game basis, I really like what I see from Shesty. He's rock solid and super calm in goal. But you can't discount track record. Track record is everything.
It would be absurd to measure a guy who played one game and got a shut out against a 15 year pro who won a vezina and three cups. Know what I mean?
The only thing Hank failed to do in his time as a Ranger was win a cup, so in Igor's case, he needs to break a few of Hanks records AND win a cup to be considered the best to ever wear the sweater.

Shesterkin vs. Lundqvist. Who do you think is a better goaltender?
I was thinking about it the other night. Of course Shesty doesnt have the longevity to judge objectively but going by eye tests, to me Shesty has the edge over Lundqvist.
Was thinking about this the other night too, and on a night to night basis, Shesty doesn't have the soft goal syndrome that Hank seemed to have.
BUT
Hank's playoff career speaks for itself. The amount of Game 7 wins and shutouts Hank had was insane and Shesty hasn't yet sniffed the playoffs.
Hank also never got hurt and Shesty is laying on the ice every three months so I think the question will be best answered when this team makes a few runs and we either do, or don't, win the cup. Because that's where Hank fell short. In order to be better than Hank, you need to win the cup, period.

i dont think they're prospects anymore, no?
Who are you talking about then? Othmann? Cuylle? Again, our prospects are doing better than most.

Damn, gutsy effort. What a win.

Yea, lets hope forward depth gets fixed at the deadline. Can't do damage in playoffs like this.
They're basically icing a preseason lineup tonight. RW has been a problem all season, it's especially dire now.

What happened to Vally?

Lol, fuck you Lemieux.

Which of you guys still wanted Lemieux around?
Me. Opposing team should get the option to keep him in the game lol

Hope he stays in the game...

only our prospects suck. Everyone else's seem to be doing great.
Igor is a Vezina favorite and Fox won the Norris... Ours are doing better than most.

The people who watch the AHL seem to think Barron is an NHL player so I'm happy to see him get a chance. Curious what he can do with a longer look, he seemed to be getting comfortable.

Could it be a the "tough guy" gesture? Sure. But this is the 3rd time in a month it's happened. Someone literally just got suspended for it a week ago. It's obvious this gesture toward a black athlete is not tolerated. It's obvious black athletes take offense to it because it's been used toward them in derogatory terms.
Just as it could be the "tough guy" gesture, it could also not be. So don't fucking do it.

Imagine if we could get JT Miller and McDonagh for a couple useless prospects and a couple of picks.
Everyone wants to rebuild until you find out prospects mostly suck.

Exactly.
Right, except not even Tinordi sucked enough to accept a one year deal.
He makes barely any money so ultimately it just doesn't matter at all. We have how many millions in cap space?

I know it's not much money, but still. I wouldn't have given either of them more than one. It is easy to dump, though, yes.
I mean, that's just not how contracts work in the NHL. Hardly anyone signs for one year and if they do, they're likely guys who suck and got bought out.

Good player in a bad situation thing. imo.
I think we all agree we'd rather use assets to fix the forward group, but it's also pretty rare that a defender of Chychrun's caliber on a really favorable contract hits the market, and he'd honestly fix a key issue (the left side of our defense is not very good).

I'm just underwhelmed by this dude. I don't like the likely price tag of acquisition, and it's not an area of need. Banishing Kravstov to the desert is funny and spiteful, but I'd rather use him to land a forward - where we have gaping holes.

So, who are we expecting to be the prime sellers this season, with some juicy assets ripe for the picking?
Exactly half the east.

Well... that's an odd choice. I'm sure Shesty is not happy. Start your Vezina goalie against the top team in the league. I mean, c'mon.

Oh, no, not to that level. I'm just saying, the Rangers are no strangers to reclamation projects. Erik Christensen, too, while we're at it.
I guess my point is, why are they trying to take on a reclamation project at the deadline? Why not just get a player you know is good?
There are many out there.

Pouliot, Strome, Prospal, Boyle, Grabner, etc.
Huh?
Prospal was a 50+ point player before the Rangers and stayed a 50+ point player.
Pouliot was here one season and scored 36 points.
Boyles was and is a 4th liner
Grabner had a resurgence, I guess.
None of these players did what Strome is doing.

Curious... how many more "measuring stick games" the NYR need to be considered a measuring stick for other teams against the Rangers? After all, they have been one of the top three team in the division, conference and top five in league. It's not like they haven't beaten the best teams before.
Come on Ozzy, where's your prediction for this game?
Well, the rest of the season is basically prep for the playoffs. Much like last game, this one already feels like it's a playoff matchup. Since the Tampa sweep, I think the Rangers have proven they belong with the big boys, but the second half of the season will determine if they are one of the biggest boys.
Rangers are in the 'Chychrun Sweepstakes'

I mean, even if Lindgren's career only lasted 3 more seasons (which I don't know why you'd assume that), you know he's a 1st pair dman who's capable of handling top players.
All we know about Chychrun is that he has bad numbers on a bad team. He could fall flat here AND he also plays a completely different role than Lindgren. It makes no sense to move one for the other.
