He's been assistant GM for more, so hes had a hand in at least a couple player evaluations from prior years.

He waited too long to deal Buchnevich. Waited too long to trade Georgiev. Hes now sitting on Kravstov. Both Georgiev and Kravstov could potentially walk for nothing as Drury may not qualify their offers.

He's also sitting on Lundkvist, Chytil, Jones and just dumped Reunenen for an AHL lifer to fill out Hartford for the season, because there was no room for him at the NHL level..

I mean, I don't know how you can give him credit or blame for anything while he wasn't the final decision maker. That makes no sense.

Buch was obviously not an "unwanted player" unless you're talking about the other 31 teams in the league. And one player does not make a track record.

The Kravstov situation has yet to unfold. Lundqvist and Jones are highly touted prospects and Chytil is on the NHL team? Sounds like you wanted him to sell the farm for this one season? Undo what's been done for the last 3-4 years? I'm genuinely confused as to why you're calling those players "not needed" when they're major pieces of our farm system.

I'm not even gonna touch Reunenen because I don't think you can even pretend to be upset about that deal.

I think it definitely can . What we have to hope for is that everything we have heard is over exaggerated and that he is wanted back.

That's the only thing I'm not sure about. My opinion is that Drury really just doesn't like the kid and will get whatever asset he can for him at this stage. Drury seems to hold onto his unwanted/not needed players a bit too long and winds up selling/giving them away.

Curious what proof there is of this. Drury's been GM for less than a year.

Because he's a very good 3rd line center, not a 2nd liner with enough skill to work with an elite playmaking wing. Kinda proves that Strome makes that line gel, and you can't just throw any old middle-6 center and it'll be magic.

I mean, how many shifts did he have at center? 5? Doesn't really prove anything. I'm surprised Gallant didn't let it play out longer.

Center depth continues to haunt us.....Whether GG likes it or not, Copp is the best candidate for that 2c spot. I'd be pumping Barrons tires but....he gone.

Barron stinks. And frankly this is a great opportunity for the Rangers to see if they want to resign Copp at 5 x 5 instead of Strome at 6.5 x 6.

they've got 16 games to figure out if Copp is a 2nd line center.

Well, they tried to. They pitched Giroux. They were in on Chychrun. But they filled some of it with the right players. That's what matters most.

This, and they did use it. They didn't have to ask anyone to retain salary and therefore they didn't have to overpay.

There's basically three reasons why nothing has been done so far:

    1. He thinks the team is good enough to win, which is obviously wrong
    2. He just wants to give the team a year in the playoffs to see what we have, which is conservative but at least reasonable

    3. He slept through the trade deadline

You're acting like you've never witnessed an NHL deadline before.

We've had deals announced AFTER the deadline has passed in recent years.

    All true.

i think the frustration comes from seeing the same holes all season, now we’re down to the final hours with the same holes.

    We've got all day.

And even if we didn't make any moves, personally, I'd be fine with it. I'm not interested in trading our 1st. So, if people are asking for a 1st or nothing, I'd rather have nothing.

IMO, this team has a 90% chance of going out in the 1st round, no matter who they get. We all know it takes many years to build up to that playoff-worn, cup caliber team. We're just not that.

I think the fact that the Leafs were able to pry Giordano loose without giving up a No. 1 pick may tend to indicate that Drury is being conservative in what he is offering.

It doesn't have anything to do with Drury. He wanted to go to Toronto. Much like Giroux wanted to go to Florida. These guys have earned that right to choose. I feel like Rangers fans assume every trade revolves around the Rangers somehow...

Unrelated, but It's funny to me that everyone thinks Drury sucks and yet they want him to make trades. How does that logic work?

Every dog has its day. The Rangers could and should be better. They atleast need to make some depth moves for veterans that have been to the dance. There's a bunch of roster spots that need improvement. No reason to not address the needs. Everyone top team found a way to add with no cap space. The Rangers are sitting on how much?

All major pieces have been moved. Time to cash in on the bargain bin.

Get me atleast Stastny and I'll be content. Every major piece they had a realistic chance on is off the board. Only competition is Colorado for the remaining leftovers.

All major pieces? Barely any trades have happened.

Domi, Rakell, Lehkonin, Giordano, Copp, and a bunch of others are still out there. All of which could help bolster this lineup that has basically been MacGyvered together with spare parts and Greg McKeggs for the last 2 months.

I have an honest hypothetical question because I don’t know the answer to it.

Hypothetically, say the Rangers and Chicago came to an agreement by Monday on a Kane deal in which the Blackhawks retained 50% of his salary, which the Rangers can obviously handle for this year. In the summer, can they theoretically offer prospects/picks/players, whatever mix, to a team like Arizona to retain 50% of Kane’s cap hit for next season? Is that allowed? I’m not even sure.

I can't imagine a guy can play for one team while someone else pays his entire salary. This feels like clear and obvious cap circumvention.

As of right now, I'm not sure what to make of the cap situation next year. I thought Strome would be locked up by now, but I'm starting to wonder if they might be looking at a 3C that could fill that role if Strome walks.

  11. I'm starting to hope more and more that we don't make a "big" splash. I'm fine to move a defensive prospect or two or a 2nd round pick, but I'm not interested in giving up a 1st for anyone at this point.

The Vatrano move was solid and I hope if they bring someone else in, it's a move similar to that one. Low risk. High reward.

  12. I'm not sure what the point of making the playoffs is if you're not in the mindset of "going for it." Do I think this is the Rangers year? No. But why the hell not take a swing or two and see if you can't surprise some people?

We've got so much cap space, it would be insane NOT to spend some of it. So long as the major players on the team stay put and it's only prospects and picks going out the door, I'm 100% on board with going for it.
