To be fair the last 2.5 seasons for Strome before we acquired him:

    NYI: 30p 69gp

    EDM: 34p 82gp

    EDM: 2p 18gp

I can understand trying to trade garbage into gold again with a reclamation project

I dunno how many Ryan Strome-like deals have we ever pulled off? Where a bad player turned into gold? Strome is literally the only one I think think of.

Again, why go for the bottom of the barrel? There are plenty of good players available.

Well the end of the day you obviously just don’t want to see past 3.6m because all the things I listed show that he is being a pain in the ass to the opposition and contributing on both sides of the ice.

People act like 3.6 is 10 or that good players are free. I mean the Islanders pay 9m for their 4th line who everyone slobbers over.

Goodrow, like Reaves and Hunt, is a big reason this team went from no swag at all to 1st place. People bitched about everyone that was brought in, but I mean, I think by now it's obvious Goodrow is a big part of this teams success.

Agree. That's why I'm all over JT Miller with retention. I'd rather sell what it takes to get Miller at 50% and get 2 kicks at the can with him. This year at 2RW, maybe next year he shores up 3C.

Yup, I like Miller. Especially with retention. I don't know what that costs (probably a lot), but if it's 50% retained then we're talking about being able to afford Strome and taking two kicks at the can, as you said.

Right. The NHL isn't a developmental league. You don't get a shot "When you're ready", you get a shot when you're ready and the team needs you.

Frankly if anyone should be displaced it's Kaky and Loaf. And then Twitter still won't be happy.

There's always been a contingent of Ranger fans who are all about the next shiny object. We had a couple here who would just constantly pine about how Grachev was the next Malkin. "NHL shot!" They are rarely right about it.

Everyone starts out as a prospect, but most prospects suck. And even the ones that make it, most of those are average. And even the ones that are above average take years to develop. People have this bizarre idea that prospects are gonna step in and light it up. They're not. Look at the teams who have a lineup of prospects. They're all in basement of the league. Look at the Devils. Think about how long it took Mika to become a 1C. Did he break out at 26? 27? Igor didn't break into the NHL until he was 26.

Rangers don't need to be doing Morgan Barron any favors when it might be another 3-4 years until he's above replacement level. They're winning now without him.

If can still be relatively painless. Tyler Toffoli and Chris Tierney aren't breaking the bank to acquire.

How are you affording all this? Tyler Toffoli still has 3 years left and a 4.5 cap hit. He's going to cost a pretty penny. Chychrun is going to cost an arm and a leg. Plus that's what, 10m added to the cap?

After this season we have a cap problem, so to me, the only real answer at this deadline is rental players. They go away after the season, we resign our core, and run it back next season.

Adding players with contracts really makes a mess of things in the summer.

    Basically, yes.

"So Barron has no chance ever? Great coach we have! Butt hurt butt hurt butt hurt."

You know, Vince has been dying on this hill too. Like, what don't people understand? The team is first in the division. They're not gonna start calling up rookies to replace veterans on a 1st place team. They're probably bringing in MORE veterans.

The focus isn't on next season. Nor should it be. The focus is on Friday. Then the next game after that. Gallant doesn't give a fuck if Barron getting his feet wet is good for next season. He'll cross that bridge when he gets there.

When the team friggin stinks and they're not giving rookies minutes, there's a problem. When the team is in first and they're not playing rookies, who cares?

    Or

    Lindgren-Fox

    Chychrun-Trouba

Doesn't matter. Rock solid, playoff-winning defense.

Our defense isn't really an issue though. Personally, I have no problem with Nemeth as a 6th. And who's playing the 3rd pair in this scenario? Because you're going to have to give a lot to get this dude.

To me, I think the obvious hole is on RW. 3C after that. That should be the focus. We have the assets to get rentals for those roles and it would be relatively painless.

The number of insiders we can actually believe can be counted on one hand with a few fingers left over.  There are quite a few bloggers I really like, but they throw as much shit against the wall to see what sticks as I do. I like the reads and te debate, but take 99% of it with a grain of salt.

At the end of the day friends, the only unimpeachable source we have is Larry Brooks.

I think we found Larry' account!

Second. They'd use him at RW off the hop IMO.

I'm hopeful they can get both a C and RW. That would signal a serious attempt to make a run. If it's Giroux at RW, I guess that's fine, but it doesn't interest me as much as having him at C.

You know the Rangers are doing something right this season when asshats like Butch Goring write this on Twitter:

In all seriousness, first off: how incredibly unprofessional. The guy is a fucking clown.

Second, it’s comical for an idiot like this to say something like this considering that aside from a miracle summer Covid run and last season, the Islanders have been arguably the most irrelevant franchise in this league since the early-90s. Even with that run last year, outside of a couple of screaming 20 year olds eating dinner at Borrellis, no one really gave a shit. That dump was absolutely EMPTY for nearly 25 years outside of when the Rangers would visit and embarrass the Islanders by taking over 75% of the stands.

And finally, just another example of how that pathetic franchise will ALWAYS be obsessed with us.

Ugly fucking gremlin. Horrible color commentator. Biased homer. Rent free, baby. Rent free.

Not only am I surprised Butch Goring has a twitter, but equally surprised he knows how to use it.

He was pretty much a non factor last night.  Surprised he's having the statistical season he's having when you see how he did against the Rangers. Kind of a no show for Giroux.

Not sure how you can judge a player on one game. Like you said, he's have a good year even though the flyers are absolute dog shit. If he did come here he'd be a 3rd liner, which would be insane.

You can't keep everyone. Lindgren, Miller, Robertson, Jones, talk of Schneider needing to move to the left...someone's gotta go.

I'm meh on Jones just because he'll never sniff the power play, so why bother?

I'm more intrigued by what you can get for Miller because if he's headed to the third pair, Robertson is giving you the same

I mean, this is great in theory, but we've seen how theories work out (Lafreniere, Kakko, Lundkvist). We have no idea what Robertson can give us. It's more likely he can't give us what Miller can.

  13. I'd be surprised if they traded any young guys from the current roster in the next two years. Yes, Miller has had bumps in the road, but who's better than him? Who's knocking down the door? I feel like this point is made with players every single day without acknowledging the replacement.

Rangers are a playoff team. Are they really going to remove an experienced NHL player for a rookie? If anything they'll be bringing in MORE experienced players.

Also, I feel like it's very short sighted to move Miller (who's had some success) because Lundqvist (who's flopped) doesn't need a new deal. That's not how it works.

Through this lens, they didn't rebuild. Rebuilding means your youth is your future. Our youth is plugs. Some future.

Well, the team is good and we have our best players locked up long term, so the future has promise. We have the best Dman in the game and maybe the best goalie. Seems alright to me.

  15. I'm just glad we're done rebuilding. Sitting around and waiting for these prospects blows.

Can Kakko become something? Maybe. Laf? Maybe. Do I care at this point? Not really.

So long as the team is good, I don't care if both guys turn out to be 4th liners. Not sure what else these guys need to succeed at this point.
