  1. I'm not really concerned with Miller. He's an NHL dman. Probably ends up as a bottom pairing guy when the team is ready to actually do something. The amount of time they spend in their own zone this season is really troubling and it's part of the reason Miller is being exposed so often.

The positive is he should remain cheap for a while.

It feels like people forget what a rebuild is. D take a LONG time to develop. I'll start worrying about him in a couple years. For now, hopefully his confidence isnt shattered beyond repair, because like pretty much ever young guy on the team, he probably should have went to the AHL first.

I agree the problem isn't Strome.  Its that all 3 of them are soft.

I agree. So, something has to change, no?

I'm not saying Strome sucks but this team isn't going to win anything with the 3 centers they currently have. Mika is here for 8 more years so that leaves two other places to make changes. Does Mika + Strome excite you for 6 more years? Even if they flip Chytil for someone, are you excited about that 1/2 punch?

    I don't think I am.

  3. Been thinking recently. This team is supposed to go to the playoffs this year. I think they should. This is the start of their "window" if you believe in such a thing.

Is Ryan Strome the 2C that's gonna get this team to win its next Stanley Cup? Because that's what we're starting to plan for next. Strome will likely be looking for 6x6 so are we confident in saying, yes, Strome is a Cup-winning 2C?

I'm not sure if he is. I'm not sure if a 1/2 punch of Mika and Strome is good enough. It certainly doesn't stack up to the previous cup winners. I wonder if resigning Strome because "there's no better option" isn't just being uncreative. They still have a million assets. They still have a logjam of players and limited spaces to put them.

IMO, they still need an Eichel-style trade to make them anything more than an 8th seed.

I don’t disagree on some level of concern growing with Kakko. He has looked good, he can pass the eye test. But at some point, you need to show up on the scoresheet.

    I’m a little worried.

I don't think he's looked particularly good TBH. He looks a step slower than everyone else on the ice. It was really noticeable tonight as that line created pretty much nothing.

    I'm a Kakko stan, but I'm worried.

There's been a few lately and as Josh said. I think a lot of GM's would consider giving Kakko a 3x5m contract or something like that. And if someone does, Rangers are fucked, that was my point. If he deserves it or not is another question, but we see what Carolina did with Montreal re Kotkaniemi, same could happen here. We would essentially lose Kakko (a 2nd overall pick only 2 years ago) for a 1st and a 3rd.

I just don't know why it's worth worrying about right now. Kakko has 0 points this season.

If he sucks this year, it might be the end of the road for him anyway. So let's wait and see.

I think they'll make it work. The only worry I have is someone offersheeting Kakko for like 4-5m, then we're kinda fucked.

I mean, firstly, offersheets don't generally happen, but secondly, Kakko hasn't done anything to deserve 5 million dollars. There's 10m+ available. I'm not gonna worry about who's getting what until the season's over. IMO, hopefully we do have a problem next year because it means Kakko was good.
