This makes whatever Shesterkin will get look like an even better deal. I also didn't realize he was already 30 years old. I thought he was 28 or something.

No, it won't. No one should pay through the nose for a goalie. Ever.

They're incredibly important, but not at the expense of a functioning salary cap. I'd much rather spend money on game-breakers — scorers, defense — than the player who cannot literally win you a game.

Shesterkin is incredibly valuable right now because he's priced so affordably. The moment you double his AAV, which is probably what he's "worth," and all that goes up in smoke.

They are kind of important, though. Especially if you have a really good one. I know what you're saying, though. What's he going to get now, though?

The Avs won a Cup with Darcy Keumper.

Who was Vegas' goalie when they won the Cup? Adin Hill.

Yeah, both of those teams had great systems and insane depth. The system Colorado employs has generally made a lot of their goaltenders look great. Fingers crossed they can still get something done with Igor in a couple more years.

Because they don't spend on goalies!

lol You can still be deep and spend on goalies, though. It also helped that they have had great systems and a lot of talent is all. Hopefully when Igor is due for a pay day they have both. 😝 And who really saw that coming from Adin Hill anyway? lol

Vegas used like 5 goalies last year. You just don't need to spend alot there in today's NHL.

Yup, and look how successful a bunch of teams are with affordable goalies still:

Avs with Geo (3.4), Stars with Oettinger (4.0), Canes with Andersen (3.4) and Raanta (1.5), Bruins with Ullmark (5), Swayman (3.475), etc. etc.

Hell, most of the best teams in the league's combined cap hit is lower than double digits. The only team with a high-priced goalie who's been successful is Tampa, and they basically have to strip their own team down every off-season because they can't afford to keep anyone.
