The trade was in discussion in late 2008, when "Seen Stamkos" was both a marketing campaign and a literal question on the ice as he was strugglebussing through his rookie year. So there's a bunch to consider here - from "who goes to Tampa" (at the time, a notoriously penny-pinching org in the throes of a rebuild they didn't seem to have half a clue how to begin to "do the Rangers 'fix' Stamkos the way the Lightning did"?
