Brad Treliving Named GM of Maple Leafs

Recommended Posts

Always made the most sense. Leafs actual GM is Brendan Shanahan. Treliving is a good corporate ladder rung who'll be happy to hold the title, but little of the actual power.

Plus, if push comes to shove and they do opt to trade from the core, he's been involved in multiple "blow it up" type deals before with a Canadian team.

All he had to do was pick the right coach when Huberdeau was acquired. Prolly still have that job. Hiring Sutter was a dumb move.

Nah coaching doesn't matter, I was told. Players are who they are, and coaching won't change it a bit. I read that on here so it must be true.

Sutter was already there when they acquired Huberdeau.

I'm aware of that but that doesn't change the obvious malfunctioning that occurred thereafter involving that locker room and Huberdeau. Treliving could've fixed their issues and opted to leave the hated bench boss in place. Who cares anyways. We got bigger fish to fry on Broadway. Hopefully Drury doesn't shock the world and hire Sutter. Now that would be some off season fodder!

You said, "All he had to do was pick the right coach when Huberdeau was acquired." You said that as though finding the "right coach" is just an easy process. It's not. Sutter coached most of that same team to 50 wins last season. He was the right coach until he wasn't anymore. If finding the right coach was so easy, the Rangers would've hired theirs already.

Meh; Huberdeau apparently wasn't the only one who didn't want to play for Sutter; rumors were multiple players were not on board with coming back next year for Sutter.

I've been on hiring boards before and every application process, we had front runner candidates through out the process and finding the right candidate who fit the profile we were trying to fill actually wasn't that tough.

The issues in Calgary were well known last year.

Shanahan just hired a puppet, right?

Yes, but this isn't evidence of that. He can't be at the draft table because Calgary won't allow him to since he was still technically under contract until the end of the NHL calendar. This was one of the stipulations for severing that contract.
