It should be pretty easy in the investigation to know if he meant it as a racist gesture, I would guess their would be some epithet and/or sounds that he said while doing the gesture.  Officials were right there

Shit, guess I didn't submit this earlier

Will probably win some appeal and sue the teams and league and make more money than he would playing.

With everything moving so quickly, especially with the team releasing him, I have to believe they had enough damning evidence

Somebody remind this clown Wilson did that after ragdolling half our team?  This guy refused to fight Subban and did this shit behind his back and his own team did nothing to protect him.  He was the farthest thing from a tough guy on the ice. Huge difference.

Could it be a the "tough guy" gesture? Sure. But this is the 3rd time in a month it's happened. Someone literally just got suspended for it a week ago. It's obvious this gesture toward a black athlete is not tolerated. It's obvious black athletes take offense to it because it's been used toward them in derogatory terms.

Just as it could be the "tough guy" gesture, it could also not be. So don't fucking do it.

It's not that they take offense, it's that it's interpreted that way by most people who see it. Like pointing your fingers while you waive. Just don't fucking do it.

Certainly hope he's telling the truth. Seems fishy though.

Id assume teammates would have been sticking up for him if he was being truthful. I'd also assume refs/officials would have said something by now if there was just a  miscommunication.

This could very well be the standard 'im not really a racist' apology video from everyone who gets caught.

we live at the height of cancel culture.  i would not be surprised if his teammates were hesitant to say something

It's not "cancel culture" to functionally end someone's admittance to society based on some grainy clip of a minor league hockey game. Actions have consequences, and there's plenty of evidence in that clip. He definitely gestures something at Subban, so it's just better to get out ahead of it and ruin this guy before any further information comes out. Ultimately, it's not smart to engage when thousands of people are watching, definitely all of whom are acting in good faith.

So where does it go from here now that Panetta has come out and made that statement and effectively pleading not guilty, but in the meantime the jury (i.e. ECHL, the Icemen and even the refs on the ice) have already decided he's 100% guilty based on the evidence available on the spot. Is it going to end up with the lawyers?
