Habs Fire Marc Bergevin; Hire Jeff Gorton as EVP of Hockey Operations

I think French is preferable if not required to be Montreal's GM, and if you don't speak French, at least being Canadian would be pretty much required.

I think he's been pretty much of a dud on NHL Tonight.  I'll be pleased if he takes another job.

Would be pretty amazing. Kinda hope it happens. Specifically signed by GMJG.

Months later: Montreal Canadies claim G Alexander Georgiev off waivers.

  • Phil changed the title to Habs Fire Marc Bergevin; Hire Jeff Gorton as EVP of Hockey Operations

They said that Gorton will assure the continuity of hockey operations while they search for a new GM.  I don't know if that means he will be a candidate for that position or what his portfolio will be after they hire someone else.  A bit weird.

It probably is a bit of subterfuge in order to get Gorrton in a seat of power, while getting a French speaker to face the media.

Agreed. Was just wondering how a guy who wasn't even a good GM could move up the food chain, but this makes sense.

I suppose we won't be trading with MTL anytime soon if the rumors about Drury lobbying to supplant Gorton are true.....

They are a train wreck right now.
