Girardi was UFA. Stralman. Smith.

Smith tanked and because public enemy number one in his first year. Just like seemingly every other defender who is signed. Girardi, Stralman, and like Diaz are the only ones who came in and weren't villains.

Fucking seriously - who was the last true UFA defender we signed that we didn't absolutely hate after year 1?

How about a simple strategy. If a UFA defender doesn’t want to take a one year deal, just don’t sign them. Was Nemeth really that in demand that Drury had to go 3 years on him? Wtf?

He hasn’t played well.

he’s also had some terrible calls against him. 
plus he’s going through a lot of personal shit, apparently. 
 

but fuck, Braun and Nemeth on the left side are so immobile and unreliable. their size can’t make up for their current defensive inefficiencies.

 

 

 

strangely, I still have hope for him, and he might be able to live up to the contract, but it’s not going to be this season. He should have stayed with his family and gotten paid leave. He’s obviously not mentally in the game right now.
