The OFFICIAL Lindy Ruff MUST GO Thread

Don't pretend to know how much is Ruff and how much is the way Quinn wants to play things. Is it Ruff's fault he's saddled with Staal? Or that after a good first 2 seasons Skjei regressed below the mean? It also isn't his fault we're stuck playing Smith. And also Trouba, Fox, ADA and Lindgren are under his tutelage as well. In a cap sport the end of your bench is usually going to be a dogs breakfast anyway.

The Rangers went from a middle of the pack team in chances against under Samuelsson and Beukeboom to a bottom of the league team under Ruff. Skjei and Smith both played their best hockey under Beukeboom and then fell off the following year under Ruff.

Didn't people call for Arniel to get fired for the PP.

It's high time to hold someone accountable, and the guy holding those reins is none other than Mr Ruff.

Dude belongs in the press box doing executive shit for JD. Let's get someone back there that knows what the hell is going on...

That and for God's sake, get a fucking FACE OFF COACH. This team absolutely BLOWS on faceoffs!!!

How much of that is on the player and how much on the coach? Smith decided summer workouts were optional and beer and drive thru were breakfast foods. Skjei stopped bending over nor hitting anyone after he got a huge contract. Perhaps Ruff is the problem, but these guys are supposedly professionals. Do they have any agency?

Shouldn't it be on the coach to reinforce standards and procedures?

It goes a little deeper in my mind, Bugg. If you're going to single out those 2 guys, that's cool....and you're probably correct about Smith, and Skjei. The thing is there's no cohesiveness in this team's ability to defend. The whole "system" is disjointed.

You can see where there's gaps in their coverage in the defensive zone,

Players that back in and give up the Blue line too easily

Defenseman that play the wrong guy on an odd man rush

Wingers that pick up the wrong players in the defensive zone

Switches that leave men open in the slot

Grade A chances for the opposition, off set plays when losing defensive zone draws

It's a hodgepodge of shit that even I see, and I don't play anymore. I'm just a guy who sits behind a keyboard, and shines a seat with my ass in an office!!

There are actual NHL scouts and teams that see exactly the weak points and defensive breakdowns of the Rangers team defense.

Philly ate us alive in that 2 game series this past weekend, and even though we made it look close at 5-3 on Sunday, that game could have easily been 9-3...and probably should have.

My point is, if the Rangers "depth" and upcoming strength is going to be our defense, especially with the pipeline of young players headed our way over the next 2 or 3 seasons, then they better fucking get their shit together and get a REAL COACH, and a real way to play team defense AS A UNIT OF 5, or this is just a total jerk off session, and this team will never contend.

Watch again when the playoffs start how these top ranked franchises teams tighten their team defense so tight it'd make a virgin's honey pot squeak!! ;)
