Future
Well at least we know why he's sucked so much. This is going to be the story, and I don't really agree with it. The knee might have made him a bit less dynamic in the O Zone, but most of his mistakes are mental.
NYR2711
Hopefully he gets back sooner than later. Too many injuries, especially on the blueline.

So unless something major happened around Thanksgiving...

Giacomin
Yeah but his offense has dropped off a cliff and he has not looked good in the O zone the past month. Tear could have gotten worse, if it was a partial. He has not looked very mobile. I thought maybe AV or fear of more mistakes were getting to him. Sod16
I think you have to give him the benefit of the doubt as far as this affecting his play. DeAngelo has not be setting the world on fire in the AHL. This will probably be the big chance for him. If he doesn't click, forget him.
LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN
Of course they knew. It probably wasn't so bad and they just braced it. They figured it wouldn't get worse and he could play though it. Well, not so much... You actually think that is true? It's a torn cartilage! As I said; B.S. from the NYR. LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN
Where'd you get your M.D.? On this board. And I'm talking about the big surprise announcement not whether or not he is injured. 4+ mos. later and it's the news of the day. Hogwash, imho. Giacomin
You actually think that is true? It's a torn ligament! As I said; B.S. from the NYR. Let's get the facts right on this board, before criticizing and speculating. It is a meniscus not a ligament.
Long live the King
On this board. And I'm talking about the big surprise announcement not whether or not he is injured. 4+ mos. later and it's the news of the day. Hogwash, imho. Why would they announce it before, allowing other teams to target it? And when a player is having surgery and going to be out for weeks is that not news worthy? LONG LONG LONG TIME FAN
Giacomin. Take note. I realized my error and corrected it. Speaking of facts. Others might try doing the same; ahem, ahem. BTW, I didn't speculate. Simply said that it has been 4+ mos. and now it comes out.

Long live the King
“The training staff has done a tremendous job to help me manage the pain,” Shattenkirk said. “What really has been the X-factor… has been that it limits me off the ice as far as training… and I feel my left leg is starting to get a lot weaker and not allowing me to play my game. Recently, it’s been something that’s really been glaring. Shattenkirk received a cortisone shot at the beginning of the season, which started to wear off “in about eight to 10 weeks” he said, and tried a PRP (platelet-rich plasma) injection during the bye week . . . it just hasn’t responded the way we hoped it would.” https://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/rangers/kevin-shattenkirk-knee-injury-1.16257413
Phil
I think there's just no chance they've already decided to be sellers. I guess I could be wrong, but I really doubt it. More likely is that they're going to look at it as an excuse to embrace the tank if the team struggles, or, if the team still wins some games approaching the deadline, hold assets and look at Kreider and Shatt as your deadline acquisitions. Maybe. I'm looking at the quality of callups, especially in Holland and Catennaci, as indications that this season is lost. These are pre-Matthews Leafs-type players. Bugg
https://www.newsday.com/sports/hockey/rangers/kevin-shattenkirk-knee-injury-1.16257413 YOu can play with a meniscus tear. So the shot/physical therapy in hopes he could manage the pain is not unusual at all. Ben Rothlisberger played pretty much a whole season with this injury. Physical activity doesn't make it much worse. But over time the tear flopping around can wear a groove into the bone, wear it away altogether , really eff up your knee long term and start arthritic issues. Catennaci probably won't even dress and Lettieri is already up. Idk who else they're supposed to bring up...Tambo?

It's going to be AVs saving grace. What I mean by that is this -- the Rangers' farm has multiple waivers-exempt prospects they could have tried. Instead?and I absolutely view it as an indictment of their quality?they've recalled not one but two veterans who will require waivers to be returned. Again, pre-Matthews Leafs. They're going to attempt to make the playoffs. There's too much money at stake not to.

They also maybe actually have futures here. Catennacci and Holland do not (though I don't mind the Holland recall as much). torontonyr
Also seeing really incorrect timelines for the surgery. Typically around 2-4 weeks for a return for elite athletes with the correct management.
