torontonyr Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 For one season Ovechkin-Crosby-Kessel Doughty-Keith Murray Kessel can score trash goals, Crosby will make anything work, Ovechkin will be dynamic, Doughty will supply limited offense from D via Crosby's vision, Keith is all-around to keep fort, Murray is "good enough" in net. Long term Gaudreau-Matthews-Laine Subban-Weber Price Not even close to being other options for this, other than perhaps Tarasenko coming in and trading down for goaltending. Gaudreau is as dynamic as dynamic gets, but lacks the size and all round play that Laine and Matthews bring respectively. All are under 25, and all are leaders despite their young age. If they can't shoulder the leadership roles, Subban and Weber definitely can. The intertwined defensemen will be united and will be allowed to play to their strengths. Subban being free to roam, whereas Webber can anchor and provide a bomb when needed. Price is elite enough to carry them today vs any lineup, especially with the D-corps in front of him being so solid. Plus, he will buy them a year or two to develop and mature on Forward, while still being young enough when the offense hits its prime. Similarly, both defensemen will still be in the (admittedly) later years of their prime windows during this period.

Future Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Out of curiosity, why would anyone choose Keith over Doughty if you're spending just $1 on a D?
torontonyr Posted September 11, 2017 Posted September 11, 2017 Out of curiosity, why would anyone choose Keith over Doughty if you're spending just $1 on a D? Better two-way player, multiple cups, better at anchoring an offensive d-man (if slightly).
Future Posted September 12, 2017 Posted September 12, 2017 Better two-way player, multiple cups, better at anchoring an offensive d-man (if slightly). Huh? Doughty has two cups and Keith is always anchored by a stay-at-home guy. Not to mention the fact that Doughty has had more points than Keith in two of the last three seasons.

fletch Posted September 16, 2017 Posted September 16, 2017 Gaudreau-McDavid-Tarasenko (8) Karlsson-Doughty (6) Dubnyk (1) Dubnyk and Gaudreau are steals at $1 I like my front line - best days are still ahead of them. Defensemen are my personal preference
