I don't buy the all is lost for 5 years if they get rid of him either, but I also don't think it's a particularly healthy developmental environment to have guys on the team all year knowing a trade is coming. Trade or resign him this offseason, but make up your mind so the team can function without all these questions across the full season.

There was some talk about getting less for Zucc than we maybe could have gotten last year, but no mention of getting more for Hayes this year than what we could have gotten last year. I don't think Hayes gets close to netting a 1st round pick last year. And certainly not a 1st rounder + a halfway decent prospect/roster player. They would have been looking at probably a Michael Grabner type return tops, and it really paid off waiting to deal him. Additionally, it must have been their plan all along to deal him. He couldn't have played much better to make a case to have the Rangers sign him long term, and yet they didn't and still chose to trade him. Their minds were made up a long time ago, and it seems to me they gambled that he would have a good year to increase his value. This is purely conjecture, but it makes me wonder if there were other factors at play besides on ice performance.

Figured I would share this here: https://slickdeals.net/f/12858208-1-year-subscription-to-the-athletic-1-99-mo-23-88?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1 1.99/month special for the 1st year. I have been waiting for a discount to give it a shot. Can't beat $24 for a year.

Don Cherry Rips Hurricanes for Celebrations
BrooksBurner replied to Phil's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
The celebrations are corny and I personally prefer the "act like you've done it before" mantra. But they can do whatever they want, and people tend to forget sports are entertainment. If their fans like the post game celebrations then good for them. They should be prepared for an opposing team to do it on their ice after a big win in the playoffs though. -
Fix 'Em Fast: Wings, Oilers, Hawks, or Ducks?
BrooksBurner replied to Phil's topic in Hockey Around the Globe
Edmonton Oilers, pretty easily for me. They've got the hard part done...getting 2 franchise forwards on the team and likely the best player in the league with McDavid. -
Rangers Draft [RW] Lauri Pajuniemi in 5th Rd. (132nd) Pick

I don't really want another goalie superstar because I don't want another goalie that eventually earns 8+ million a year. I'd be more satisfied with a pretty good goalie for between 4-6 million a year and use the money elsewhere.

Rangers Draft [D] K'Andre Miller in 1st Rd. (22nd) Pick

How far away with this kid? Figure anywhere between 2-4 years at Wisconsin? 2020 earliest, 2022 latest? -

Looks awesome. Can't wait. Is this the last season?

The Knicks are on the right track if they play their cards right. They need a couple more years to accrue picks and shed dead salary, but I fear they are going to overpay someone to come here, like they did with Amare Stoudemire, and it wont be near enough to compete. It will just set them back even more. I also dont think Porzingis is a max player but the Knicks will make him one

I don't mind rebuilds, but man it's tough when it stretches across 3 teams at the same time (Giants, Rangers, Knicks). What a bunch of SUCK.

Flowers ruined the entire game. Killed the entire first drive of the game and put us in a terrible spot field position wise. Terrific way to start the season. Then he got beat terribly on the pick six play which is why it was a pick six. Got beaten terribly on the 4th & 6 on the last drive of the game. Yes, there were a few drops that should have been catches, but on any important play of the game it was Flowers who stuck out like a sore thumb. They had to babysit his side of the line almost all game with an extra blocker. The guy should be nowhere near an NFL roster. He's slow and gets beaten on edge rushes all game long. His footwork is terrible. He could possibly play at Guard, but he is incapable of playing Tackle.

The Job Thread: Interviews, Negotiations, and Advice
BrooksBurner replied to Phil's topic in The Bar Room
This is what I would do. I don't think there's a reason at all to tell them a number, but I think it might be worth it to mention that the other offer is "a good offer". In not so many words, I think that lets job 2 know that if they do in fact want to make an offer, make a strong one. -
People who harp on people who say we when referring to the team they root for. Don't have an issue with that. But agreed on calling players by first name...that's just weird. Can't say I've seen the position prefacing the player's name before, but I would consider that odd too.

People telling me the same story more than once on different occasions...and not the kind of stories that are "reminiscent of good times"...no, the kind of story that A) didn't involve you and/or B) is a boring story. For whatever reason they think it's a great story so they tell everyone they know. Since they've told it so many times they seemingly forget who they have told the story to, and wind up telling it multiple times to the same people.
