Bad ice according to CJK, said it was no excuse but he had to go there and in quite a bit of detail.  Kinda wish he didn't say it because well it was no excuse and both teams played on it obviously which he acknowledged. He gets the hall pass after the last game.  Way too many passengers last night imo. Time to pick it up all the way around tomorrow.

I know it comes across as an excuse, but I believe what he said. It’s a legitimate reason to approach the game differently knowing the puck might be more unpredictable than usual. They didn’t adjust. Florida didn’t have to adjust because it was already the way they approach the game. I’m not sure the Rangers are capable of that style

This is a throwaway line that doesn't mean anything. We can agree to disagree, but the numbers don't support your interpretation.

I mean that's fine, but there's also a reason he's not a coach. If he knew how to run a team, I'm sure he'd be running one.

It’s weird how you got no problem going out of your way to diss probably the two greatest playoff forwards in Rangers history in Mess and Kreider, but you’ll go slob Panarin’s knob when he stinks. Missing perspective me thinks

Well your opinion is different than both coaches', so I tend to side with their view of things, as well as Valley's.

It was and evenly played game. We can stop with the talk of Florida dominating and imposing their will. It just didn't happen.

Also, I understand why you want to forget about the broken sticks because it doesn't fit your narrative, but even a shot from a bad angle can give you a rebound and a scoring chance or even go in, so it's pretty silly to say we should disregard it. I think you know that.

Cool story, but it misses the forest for the trees.

I’ll go with Messier who saw what I saw, and why he was urging for Rempe to be back in the lineup for game 2.

The generated numerous scoring chances last night outside the power play. They hit three posts and they had two broken sticks.

The broken sticks were not in a good scoring area so it’s not even worth mentioning.

Florida imposed their will in the OZ all game and it’s likely to continue. The Rangers game plan seems to be settling for minimal scoring opportunities and hoping Igor bails them out in the face of sustained pressure every game. In other words, nothing has changed.

The teams they are playing are really good teams.  And they could've won all the games even G5 against Carolina if not for a few bad minutes.  Effort isn't an issue, I can't imagine any team making the conference finals without trying.  It's a lack of energy that's concerning.  I'm sure the flu bug has a lot to do with it.

I agree about effort. It’s not an effort issue. They are simply not able to impose their will on a game with any kind of consistency. They need powerplays and elite goaltending. The other teams don’t.

  6. I’m concerned if the attitude in the Rangers locker room is that it was just a one goal game. There are many one goal games that really aren’t that close. The Rangers need to play with more urgency and adjust their gameplan. If they think they can approach the series how they just did “because it was a one goal game and they just need a couple bounces next time out”, they’re in big trouble.

  7. You couldn’t keep Panarin off the scoresheet this year. 120 points. Going from a 1.5 ppg to a 1 ppg player is not a flex. It’s definitely been a different Panarin since that OT goal last round and I’m not sure why. -7 in 4 games since. Can’t believe he iced 25 min last night. Didn’t notice him once for anything good. He was awful G4 and 5 last series and if it weren’t for Kreider the truth is he wasn’t good in G6 either.

He has to be better or they are going to go down easy.

  8. That game was not about hits, although Florida had a few impactful hits early. It was about Florida getting the puck deep, battled for possession, and they are loaded with guys who can’t get pushed off the puck. Physical bullying != hitting here.

The Panthers physically smothered them, the Rangers were never in the game

    100%.

To be clear this had nothing to do with not having 5 min of Rempe on the 4th line. It’s an up and down the lineup thing. It’s finishing checks and taking contact to make plays. It’s getting the puck in deep and chasing. It’s bullying your way to the middle of the ice, forcing their defensemen to at least make a play, instead of curling and chucking a cross ice pass to a red sweater (hi again Artemi! Shave your head immediately pal!). The top 9 has to sack up.

Chytil isn't the problem. Roslovic is. I'd play Rempe next game and move Chytil to 1RW. Tell Roslovic to pack his bags already.

I really don't want to get on Roslovic after he made at least 2 plays in that 3rd period of G6 that eventually led to goals, but he's just so soft and against a strong, bully team like the Panthers it's hard to look past.

I wouldn't necessarily be against it though. Anything should be on the table after what we just witnessed. A closely played game that just broke the wrong way is one thing, like G4 in Carolina, but this wasn't that. This was closer to G3 2014 Stanley Cup.

  11. I can't wait to read all the Zac Jones takes after this game where the Rangers got bullied by size and strength in their own end for most of the game. There were several Florida players who could not be pushed off the puck as they cycled. Let me just go ahead and address it now that Zac Jones does not solve anything, and not what you want for this series. Neither does Chad Rudeweasel. Adam Fox struggled enough with the physicality. They don't need less size and strength in the lineup.

  12. If Chytil can take that pretty big hit at the end of the game and walk away fine, he's good to go and people should stop focusing on every little bump he takes. In fact, that hit might have done him a favor if there's any part of him that is nervous about taking big contact.

I would bench Vesey for Rempe, and then it's in Lavi's hands to earn that coaching swap and adjust the gameplan. He has to do more than tell these guys to chip and chase instead of fancy stuff. We know how far that goes.
