  1. i guess it's a phrase but 'X wanted it more'

these are pro athletes who have busted their ass their entire lives. they both want it

Good one! I think sometimes it is used appropriately, but many times it is a frustrating thing to hear. It's bad in team context as well. If a team wins one zip on a flukey goal, it does not mean they wanted it more.

  2. That’s Kreider’s absolute ceiling IMO. And I think 40 is a reach for him. I don’t think he shoots it well enough to score 40.

I actually think he eventually winds up elsewhere and has a 2-3 season peak where he’s 30-35 goals. But then he’ll start to decline.

Absolute ceiling is pretty equivalent to "career year".

My point was a great year puts the Rangers in a tough spot at the deadline, unless they are a shoo-in playoff team or just a terrible team. If they are on the bubble or within spitting distance of the playoffs, they will have a hard time actually making the move to trade him. It's a pipe dream that they would pull the rug out from underneath the team at that point.

  3. I still think Namestnikov will be moved for peanuts.

Agreed. I think they probably want to get Lemieux and/or DeAngelo on longer than 1 year terms. Especially DeAngelo. And they don't have the cap space to do so right now. Requires a cap dump. Namestnikov is the logical player to trade here.

  4. I never understood the rush to trade/sign him. He has a year left. Sorry it's uncomfortable for him but that's how contracts work.

    He has three options:

    1) play well enough that the Rangers absolutely have to keep you.

    2) play well enough that another team absolutely has to have you.

    3) sulk like Zuccarello did and end up with limited options.

The problem isn't from Kreider's point of view. It's the Rangers potentially putting themselves in a bad position to make a mistake later by not resolving it now.

  5. Wife and I just started this a few nights ago. Wow. I am loving it so far. I was in the dog house the other day because she fell asleep mid episode 2. I ended up falling asleep mid episode 5 . She woke up a few times asking if I started a new episode without her. I told her it was the same episode that she fell asleep watching. I just couldn't stop watching. Can't wait to watch some more. I don't even care that I have to watch a few over again.

    Grounds for divorce.

  6. He's 25. Still a kid himself... Very low miles on a big bodied, good skating center with defensive ability on top of some decent skill as a passer. He's a perfect 4th liner with room to grow. I don't think he's been fully developed.

Definitely one of those guys I just root for as a guy that was supposed to be an offensive player, yet is totally capable and willing to change his game to just be in the NHL. One of those what ever it take kinda guys.

Boo Nieves at 25 is still a kid and has potential.

Lias Andersson is 20 and should be traded to dump a salary.

We'd be in trouble if Gorton believed the same.

  7. Fine signing for the Bolts.

We really couldn't work out 1.75M extra with a team that we've dealt with extensively in the past, though? We couldn't work out taking Condon or something? Eesh.

Maybe, but what's the point? Wouldn't have freed up much space if they were forced to retain at least half of Shattenkirk plus take dead weight in return.

This contract proves there really was zero way the Rangers were going to be able to dump him and save much of anything against the cap.

  8. Namestnikov is a total frigging wildcard right now. Kravtsov should make the team, but you can't pay Namestnikov 4m to sit on the bench as #13. We're already doing that with Brendan Smith.

Kravtsov and/or Andersson might be in the AHL until we deal Namestnikov. Not necessarily a bad thing for those two to run Hartford's offense for a few weeks, build chemistry, etc.

Howden has to be in the conversation for demotion. I really doubt Kravtsov doesn't make the team.

  9. I'd love to see a line-up like this:

1st: Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko (Reliable and comfortable landing spot for Kakko)

2nd: Panarin-Chytil-Buchnevich (Exploiting Panarin to get Chytil and Buchnevich going)

3rd: Namestnikov-Strome-Andersson (Two reliable, experienced guys that you can attach Lias or Kravtsov to)

4th: Lemieux-Howden-Fast (Potentially a very nice matching line)

    Kravtsov in the A or?

  10. I think we'll see both looks, but you gotta think they want Panarin building chemistry with a center he'll play with for at least 3 years.

Chytil's fancy-stats are PHENOMENAL. He's primed for a breakout, especially if he ends up getting time with Panarin.

Howden is a prototypical 3c, imo. If he wins our 2c job, we're in trouble; barring a huge jump from him, it means that Strome, Andersson, or Chytil really shit the bed.

IMO, Nieves is fighting for his NHL career right now. He's easily the odd man out right now. He's got to show a lot to make the team, let alone to play 2c minutes.

I'd love to see Kakko get a crack at C, given his size, strength, and playmaking ability. I wonder if they will at least experiment with it in camp and/or preseason.
