  1. He basically had the same season Hughes did last year, no? He definitely was abysmal to start the season, but really came into his own and looks like an NHL player. He looks comfortable, is compatible with his linemates, and builds on his performance. I'm happy. There was no way he was going to come out onto the ice and light it up, especially looking at how poorly the team overall looked for two months.
  2. Aside from the fact that he isn't exactly fun to listen to, I feel like this is beneath him. I have a hard time believing that "The Great One" would consider taking a job in broadcasting. Like who is the closest all-time great who made the switch to commentator?
  3. I suppose this was an inevitability, but it's still unfortunate to see. What I like about The Athletic, is that it is wonderfully curated and edited, and is independent from existing entities. Its growth from a handful of markets into an international sportswriters platform over a few years is incredible. Any merger that takes place is going to lose a bit of what it was established to be, but the New York Times is just a bummer. The Athletic will downsize and water down their coverage because like the article said, there's no way NYT is going to absorb those costs entirely. An Axios merger would have been interesting given their rise to prominence over the past few years.
  4. OMFG the Greg/Jared exchange has me fucking dying right now.
  5. 1. You have to finally watch the Sopranos, or you can never watch TV again, what do you do? 2. What's your go-to slice of pizza and from where? 3. Ghost goes euro synth-pop, are you listening? 4. You're on death row, what is your last meal?
  6. I really want to care about this, but I haven't even thought about the franchise since GoT ended. I've accepted that TWoW is never coming, nor TPoS. And at this rate, knowing how the series more or less ends just killed it for me. As much as I dislike Weiss and Benioff for how the series ended, I've grown to dislike GRRM for leading us to this point. I understand wanting to work on other stuff, but he really just let his magnum opus go. And while I understand this new series exists separate from GoT, I guess I'm just kind of over it. /rant

  11. I'd like to blame my weight gain on COVID and being in a new relationship right now, but I worked through Covid, and for whatever reason, ive just been eating for the last like five months, which preceded this relationship. I need to start doing something because I feel like I'm back up to 260. Now that its getting nicer out again i'm gonna start running, but I don't know where I want to start food-wise. I was vegetarian up until Thanksgiving and since then I've just said fuck it. While i'd like to be under 200, I feel like I was happy physically in the 210-220 range.

  17. I read Generation X by Douglas Coupland which was a solid read. It's a short glimpse into the lives of three twenty-somethings opting out of mainstream society during the early nineties. Also The Suburbs by Eric Eidelstein, which was a critical look of Arcade Fire's album and the way we view the suburbs. Just started Foundation by Issac Asimov and am loving it so far.
  18. Hank and Jane's deaths in Breaking Bad hit the hardest for me. Hank for obvious reasons, knowing it was coming and Walt being too stupid to see it. Jane because overdoses are just hard for me to watch. After that, it's probably Christopher Moltisanti on Sopranos. The relationship between he and Tony signaled that it was going to happen, but I wasn't expecting it when it did. Add Adriana. Glenn and Abraham on TWD, mainly because their departure also happened to be when i began and then inevitably lost interest in the show. Stringer Bell on the Wire because he was easily one of my favourite characters on the show.
  19. Game of Thrones hurts the most for me because we still don't have the consolation prize of the last two books. And it's becoming more and more likely that we don't get that alternate ending. Even if Bran sits on the throne again, at least having the book journey to get there could be more satisfying than what D&D wrote those final two seasons. House is a close second. Despite it being a network TV show, it was the first real show I watched week to week in high school. I loved the cast the first four/five seasons but it grew tiresome and unwatchable by the end. It was disappointing in a "dropped off" sense, not necessarily that there was no payoff in the end.
  20. All of the Rangers ones that hurt for me have already been posted. (Except for re-signing Jagr. I don't care what it would have taken. He was a huge part of bringing the franchise back from the brink.) So i'm going to go with the New York Jets from 2001 to now. All of it. Herman Edwards rushing Chad Pennington back from injury. Doug Brien missing several field goals against the Steelers to get back to the AFC Championship. The Eric Mangini era. The promising Rex Ryan Era that took us to two straight AFC Championship games. The Butt Fumble. Ten straight years of missing the playoffs. Adam Gase being the biggest dick on planet earth.
  21. I finished A Scanner Darkly and while it wasn't my favourite Phillip K. Dick book, it was a good read. I didn't know until after I finished that it was very much about he and his friends and their drug usage. It made me appreciate it more having known that. I'm currently reading The Oracle Year by Charles Soule, which so far is fantastic. Very easy read about a guy who is an oracle that knows like 100 specific things that are going to happen. I'll probably attempt to finish or just reread Good Omens altogether. I tried picking it back up from where I left off, but definitely reached the point where I don't remember enough that's happened to just continue.
  22. OP has been updated for all repeats. Who else we got??
  23. The Premise: Build your top six players through the years that were either heavily rumoured, had deals "on the table", or would have just been the right fit at the right time. Three forwards, two defencemen, and a goalie. Feel free to add a coach into the mix as well. As the replies come in, we'll build a full roster of the most popular answers to make the "All Shoulda-Been" Team. I'll start: Keith Tkachuk - Joe Sakic - Alex Radulov Shea Weber - Sheldon Souray Nikolai Khabibulin --------------- BSBH All Shoulda-Been: Keith Tkachuk - Joe Sakic - Right Wing Ilya Kovalchuk - Petr Forsberg - Right Wing Left Wing - Center - Right Wing Left Wing - Center - Right Wing Shea Weber - Zdeno Chara Defenseman - Defenseman Defenseman - Defenseman Nikolai Khabibulin Goalie Head Coach
  24. i'm sitting there thinking im mouthing "water" to drew for what feels like an hour.
