  1. Because he was hired originally to aid in the defense according to plenty of articles out there. If they transitioned today much less nhl experienced Brown, then I’m sure Ruff still has input on the defense, especially since some players are here from when Ruff had a bigger say. This is why I’m surprised he’s still there.
  2. I think the point was this. We are thin at center and we also currently have a shitty defenseman killing penalties at fwd. we also have two unwanted nhl players making the roster. Boyle would have slotted nicely as the 4c and pk guy. Kill two birds with one stone. Keep Anderson, Strome, and Howden as 2 and 3 c depending on who has earned it and leave them out of any 4th line roles because we literally would have had the poster boy 4th line center for cheap. Just a small opportunity missed that actually would have made sense and been a great fit.
  3. obviously its way too early to talk firing of any kind, but i dont see how Ruff keeps a job. Defensively they look lost. My biggest problem though with Quinn is two fold. One isn't his fault. One is. The one that isn't his fault is that to me there isn't really any actual leader on the club. I know Mika is coming into his own but he strikes me as more by what he does on the ice and quiet elsewhere. I feel like there needs to be a stronger voice but who knows what none of us know behind the scenes. The part that i find partly his fault is the effort across 60 minutes and how they almost look unprepared most games early on as if they were blindsided by a team they didnt expect on the other side.
  4. I said at least a few times here Boyle would have been perfect here. 4th line center with leadership, kills penalties, can still pot close to 10 goals , and would be very tradeable come deadline
  5. I think my only problem with this trade is as follows. While yes, Names was way too large of large of a cap hit, he was only a cap hit for the rest of this season. He’s also only 26 and previously proved to be a pretty productive player albeit on a stacked team. You know who usually overpays for guys like this? Stacked teams come trade deadline looking for that extra piece of depth on an expiring contract when the cap hit is much lower. If Names does crap all year and has no value at all then he’s gone at the end of the year regardless. The Senators are flipping him at the deadline after buying pennies on the dollar. I just think we rushed this one a tiny bit, especially if they aren’t calling up someone of future importance any time soon that hasn’t yet proved they deserve the call up.
  6. Yes. With a caveat. Goaltending. If the tandem plays above the depth of the F/D then yes. The biggest problem is what they do once the playoffs start. Do they do with whoever had the better year, or who deserves it more if his name isn’t the king?
  7. It’s just a discussion based on Winnipeg’s depleted d-corps. Been discussed many times recently pretty much with every team that has extra D to spare.
  8. I feel like they would try to trade us Perrault for Smith which leaves us in the same cap situation unless they retained salary....or maybe Staal? Might be slightly more interest based on pedigree.
  9. Literally the only thing we can do with them is offer them Smith and say you can have him for nothing hoping a 1m retention in salary makes them bite.
  10. Great. Sign Brian Boyle now. 4th line center done. Trade piece come feb.
  11. Ottawa hands down has some of the worst between play music I’ve ever heard.
  12. Don’t underestimate the importance of Trouba and the rest of the defense on the PP. The opposition has to respect their presence so they can’t cheat down low as much as they did in the past. That opens up so much more PP ice
  13. My God we are seeing the emergence of someone that wants the rest of the NHL to know exactly who he is.
  14. Lol, if only i had predicted who would lift the cup first. :)
  15. I still really wish we had given Bri Boyle a PTO and signed him as our 4th line center for 1m instead of bringing in a guy like Haley or Mckegg. Would have been a good fit and probably would have given us some return trade deadline if we really are out of it.
  16. All anyone had to see from Chytil to know his “readiness” was that frustrating hooking penalty in the 3rd or whatever they called it. He has talent but he has issues. The difference between him and say, a Strome, is that while they both have issues and flaws, Strome has previously proved himself more than NHL capable. He’s 26 and already been a 50 pt player. At the very least he’s expendable in the way of playing him and if it doesn’t wok, so be it, trade, demote, ruin, whatever. That is not something a pimple faced child in Chytil should be exposed to unless absolutely necessary.
