Ballsy Predictions: Rangers Edition 2019-2020
Gunnar Stahl replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Lundqvist returns to 2011-2012 form as his swan song, then retires. Panarin, Kakko, and Zibanejad wont play more than 20 games at the same time because of injuries. We will have 2 out of 3 of them for most of the season in different combinations. Kakko will be average at best but look great doing it (think playoff Nash), you will hear a lot of "he is just snake bitten!" and the usual "he does things that don't appear on the scoresheet!" Quinn will consistently force Haley into the lineup like AV did with Glass. -

Thank goodness. Was afraid the deal might fall through lol -

I will be 100% honest and check my own ego.... I am butt hurt over it plain and simple. I personally had a ton of faith Chytil and Kravs to not only make the team but make a big splash. We were finally going to see a Rangers youth movement not only make an impact, but an immediate one. Kakko, Kravs, Andersson, Chytil, and Fox. All coming in to tear it up together. But here we are instead, Chytil and Kravs were invisible and Michael Haley.... MICHAEL HALEY, the fucking useless PTO invite made the team over them both. I am salty and a tad depressed. It's giving me AV/Glass flashbacks. I know deep down that having more time in the AHL will help them long term but god dammit I just want something different and for something to work out for us. -
I just pray we dont have another AV/Glass situation where our coach gets obsessed with a useless player and constantly shoves him into the lineup.

McKegg could be our default junk time/press box/intense grit/whatever player. Dump Haley and keep Chytil or Kravs up with the club IMO. -
Those are the type of lines that will land us Alexis Lafreni?re, so its not all bad news lol

Maybe I'm just getting old and bitter but every year I just hate seeing a roster spot wasted for the outdated "gritty enforcer" role. Even if that role was still relevant it never works for the Rangers anyway. We get pushed around regardless, so I'd rather watch a young kid struggle and figure out the game then give some irrelevant low skill player ice time. Haley, McLeod, Glass, Rupp, whoever. Year after year we waste a roster spot for someone to drop the gloves in garbage time when we are down 4-1 and pretend like it actually does anything. -
The good news is by forcing a player like Haley on the main roster we help our chances at another lottery pick.

Ahh another year of the "enforcer myth". Pretending we need someone like him taking up a roster spot as a deterrent for other teams. It never fails. -
gdt: Rangers vs. Flyers Preseason Game #5 ? 9/26/19 ? 7pm, MSG

But still, give them as much NHL ice time as possible while the games don't count. Especially Igor. -

I don't really see the point in playing Hank the whole game, let alone anymore this preseason. He's 37 and probably doesn't need the "practice", he is as loose and ready as he is going to get for the season already. Rather see Georgie and Igor get the last 2 full games. -
I know he's a 5th liner but I really hope this Panarin kid makes the team.

I'mma let you finish, but NHL 95 on the SNES was the greatest hockey game of all time.

What section if you dont mind me asking? Trying to make it to a game this year, possibly Flyers in March. Section 118 has some seats free and the view looks good. -

Cant wait for tonight! I wonder if Georgie and Shesty will split time. -
Any news on Rykov? Went down 2nd game of the tournament and hasnt been seen since. I fear his injury is pretty bad.

2019 Off-Season Thread: We Got This Bread, Man
Gunnar Stahl replied to Phil's topic in New York Rangers
Anyone else still riding the high of the off-season? We were definitely spoiled by Fox, John Davidson, Trouba, Kakko, development camp, and Panarin all happening in a few week span. Now its tumbleweeds while they work on cap related things but I am still pumped. Lundqvist crossed my mind today. I keep wondering what kind of season he will have. He has gone fairly dark this off-season besides a few reaction tweets/Instagram posts here and there. One part of me wonders if he is in a rut because of performance issues, lack of cup, Zucc leaving, etc. The other part of me wonders if he is going full 80's training montage and working his ass off to come back as the Hank from 2-3 years ago and regain his king status. What does he have left in the tank? -
Is Anyone Concerned About the Lack of Center Depth?
Gunnar Stahl replied to jsm7302's topic in New York Rangers
At the risk of causing a disagreement I do not believe in Andersson at all and have no idea how he warranted a 7th overall pick. Just going by the numbers since he started playing: https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/214318/lias-andersson Besides one hot stint on Super Elit there is nothing about him that tells me he can make an impact here. I will agree that numbers don't tell the entire story about a player. But a 7th overall center? I would hope you'd have more to show. (Disclaimer: I have zero issue with admitting I am wrong, just stating my opinion off of sheer production. Not bad mouthing anyone who likes him.) -
