Crosby was pretty close to this point, now it's not a thing. Hasn't been a thing in 15 years.
I'm not convinced that it's not like IBS or fibromyalga. You see what you want to see.

They have a 81 year old building their team. It would be good for us if he stuck around another decade.

There's hundreds of coaches out there with ideas, the easy thing to do is just go with the defacto guy on the old boys list.
Not that that he was necessarily the wrong choice. I don't know, nobody knows, yet.

Good thing we got that coach all the puck knowers wanted. I'm excited to see how he turns it around. All the adjustments and stuff. Lots of adjustments.

He definitely has problems. He can neither skate, or shoot and he's 175 pounds.
Who cares? He's the poster child for deception, and his brain is a Pentium 166 w/ MMX while everyone else is still running a 486.
Deception is the newest shiny thing and he is the best at it.

That's absolutely insane. I spent 10 years out there and never witnessed it that bad. Hopefully you didn't go with the government rebated heat pump lol

Jonathan Quick is outplaying him in front of the same team.
They're the same goalie at low danger - both at .971. They're the same goalie at medium danger - both at .876. At high danger? Quick is at a league-leading .848, performing literally 17% better than expected. Shesterkin is at .736 - and that is still around 7% better than expected, but that's such a huge delta. There's no meaningful difference in the xSave% across the board between the two, suggesting that the team isn't giving up better or worse chances to either goalie.
Shesterkin isn't making the hard saves a great goalie makes, and his backup having basically the same expectations and the same outcomes except for "Quick makes the big saves" bears out that Igor's a problem right now.
Quick gets all the muffin assignments, though. High danger chances trying to be converted by lesser than finishers. That's real.
The more Quick plays, the more he'll be exposed. The answer isn't Quick, the answer is Igor playing better, or else there is no answer.

His play is definitely an issue. It's going to be a down year for Igor. Just one of the many reasons investing more than 6 or 7 million in a goalie is bad business.

And It's fixable. First thing is to get healthy. Second thing is to get a center, we can't keep trotting Bonino out there. He's been personally responsible for at least one goal in each of the last three losses. A center who is here for his defensive game simply cannot be -7.
It is important to keep their injury issues in mind when grading the team performance, but that's on the FO to a degree.

High danger chances are cool, but they're not all created equal. So many high danger chances the Rangers get feel like I would make the save as they are telegraphed.
What opposition is doing seems different. They have guys popping in and out of nowhere, causing chaos and leading to a number of basically unstoppable chances.
(Shersterkin also needs to stop the run of the mill grade A chances, which he isn't doing)

The short story is when they are good in their own end at five on five They struggle to score goals, when they open it up to score more goals, they also give up more goals.
That's definitely how it feels.

Are they worse 5v5 in their own end vs last year? Fancy Stat guys?

Shesterkin should have a chat with his buddy Samsonov

You're failing to give Lafreniere full credit for just how far he set back your top end generational talent pool.
Quebec may leave Canada any minute. We pray they do.

The cognitive dissonance is real. Hockey isn't The national pastime in the US the way it is in Canada. You're really trying to draw an equivalence between quality of hockey and how many people go and see it?
Come on dude. When the US wins the World Juniors "It's just a bunch of kids playing". When Canada wins it's confirming the countries roll as a world superpower in the sports landscape.
Pure comedy.
The WJC is fun, and I like watching and rooting for my team. I don't really think it's the best indication of who is producing the best players, as a whole, particularly as one country always seems to be missing way more top-end eligible talent then all the others combined. I hope we're still talking shit about this in 30 years, it's fun, but it's a week long tournament.
Besides, I never said a thing about USA Hockey. I view US hockey as our equal in top-to-bottom talent at this point, only falling a hair short on top end generational talent. We all know we'd trade Fox for Makar in a nanosecond, after all.
My USHL argument has been consistent. I'd like Puckhead to finally admit, after 20(!) years of debate, that the USHL is the direct beneficiary of the CHL embargo. I will concede that it's probably better than the QMJHL, and he will retract his preposterous statement as it involved the OHL, and life will go on.
We won't see him again for 360 days lol

lol..
It's sooo good that nobody goes to the games! Parents, uncles, and cousins! My local Junior C team handely out draws USHL teams.
It's soooo good that they have to brand their competition as "professional" so they can pretend that everybody plays there organically, and totally not because playing in the other league magically makes you ineligible to play in the NCAA.
You keep willing this to happen, but even with the major astroturfing, it just isn't the case. Nobody cares about the USHL. It's a means to an end for players looking to go the NCAA route. That's it, that's all.
Who wins in a 7 game series, the London Knights, or the 1st place Fargo Force? Just have a gander at the comparable rosters and judge for yourself.

I do agree with that. I don't hate him.

Owen Nolan is really a reach at this point tbh.
His best comp ppg wise could be Brian Lawton, granted Lawton's points would be weighted less. Their hockey dbs don't look so different. Brutal.
Patrik Stefan is another close comp thru 250 games.
Can anybody find a better comp? Daigle has him blown out of the water at this point in their careers.
He's a bust, Fellas.

Gauthier's dad was a pro hockey player. He would know many of the ins and outs. It's more probable that he influenced the decision than Kevin Hayes.

Drury fell in to same trap many do. A rotting corpse, like Wheeler, can't even fukin move out there, brought in under the guise of experience and leadership. How you can watch a guy like that and think he's going to help os beyond me. Why do you employ scouts?

If they were in the NFL this would be worthy of one sentence in a rotowire report.
