Boston has no offensive depth especially when you compare against a team like Florida. After Marchand and Pastrnak (and maybe Debrusk), the dropoff is massive. They're just lucky they didn't need to score a ton of goals to win this series thanks to the Leafs offense choking. Boston's inflated record thanks to all the loser points and elite goaltending is going to become glaringly obvious against Florida. I expect it to be a pretty short series, they might win one game at best.

Boston scored one less goal than Florida this season.  The Bruins got the better of them in the season series.

I'd be really surprised if the feeling in the Bruins locker room wasn't something along the lines of "we'll get them in 6, maybe 5."

Boston is going to get swept lol

The animal spirits are going to be running high for the Bruins after the game 7 win and their success against the Panthers this season.

I think they are going to have to come out fast and score a couple of goals early in the first two games.  If they can do that this series is Boston's to win.

I read somewhere that the only coach to win the President trophy and not be nominated for the Jack Adams since 2017 is Laviolette twice (2018 and 2024).

How do you get a Jack Adams when your team is 4 pts better than the two teams that preceded it?

Not a Tocchet fan but I think he gets the award because the Canucks are *much* better under him than they were under the last few guys and that change started last season when he took over.

Dom’s model has it at 66-34 odds in favor of the Canes. That’s the biggest gap I’ve seen. I don’t think that’s crediting the goalie difference enough

I believe the media perception of the matchup is extremely flawed.

It does not give the Rangers any credit for the changes in the team over the last few months and frankly the Hurricanes are little bitches and likely to hate the Rempinator anyway.

My perception of the matchup is that it rides on the Bread Line and I think those guys are going to come out shooting this round.

Just adding: if these were the Rangers playing Wheeler, Bonino and Pitlick the perception would be accurate.  Those guys aren't around any more and the guys who replaced them matchup much better against the 'Canes speed and hustle.

Rempe gunna start this one? I feel like I'd let him have tonight off and bring him back when they return to MSG or need the spark to change the tide. Like anything else; overuse will cause the shininess to wear. Gotta conserve the spark for when needed.

I think Rempe is going to be in the lineup as long as he is available.

Laviolette is used to having a pounder in the playoffs.  Call it Tom Wilson Syndrome.   Laviolette won a cup with it a few years ago.

See the bolded text.   TBH I think there is more of an agenda going on here.  Analysts as a species missed out on the improvement and potential of this NY Rangers team and they have spent the entire year hunting desperately for reasons why they were not actually wrong in the first place.

As a result we have seen a year-long Kabuki theatre playing out while they twist themselves into logical pretzels in order come up with supporting arguments for just that position.  i.e. "Why I was not really wrong and why the NY Rangers really suck after all"

Carolina is the end of the road for all of that nonsense.  If we lose, well then they must have been right all along and if we win then the world is a different place and they will be left scrambling for reasons why.  After all they need to justify why they should even remain employed.  Laf made a huge improvement and so did Panarin.  Or maybe players like Cuylle and Schneider were able to contribute far more than expected or maybe even that Igor is back to being Igor.  The only problem is that all of these things have been visible for all or almost the entire season for anyone who cares to look with an open mind.

The difference between the last two seasons and this season is a transformed Artemi Panarin.  Off of that we got Star Vincent Trocheck and Star-in-waiting Alexis Lafreniere.

Obviously it's not all about that but it is mostly about that.

So basically the analysts are waiting to see the Breadman rise in the playoffs before they give the Rangers anything like full credit.

A Panarin hat trick early in the Hurricanes series would completely change the conversation.  A Lafreniere hat trick would also but Panarin is going to have deep fingerprints on that if it happens.

It was really all a matter of sponsoring junior teams, and MSG ownership was too cheap to do that.  One problem was that during the 40s and 50s, the Norris family owned both the Red Wings and a major stake in MSG Corp., and they put all of their junior team apples in one basket (the Red Wings).  The Rangers were viewed as a filler of dates in an arena that was focused on boxing and the circus.  The Rangers did sponsor one great junior team in the 50s, the Guelph Biltmores, who produced Gilbert, Ratelle, Howell, Prentice and others.

The league as still skewed that even when the universal draft was begun in 1969, they let gave the CANADIENS the first pick so that they could take the top French Canadien player.  Give me a break!

The cross-ownership problems were symptomatic of what was in effect a racket.  That's why I said the 3 teams were in cahoots.  🙂

A president's trophy heavy underdog coming off a first round sweep is kinda strange TBH

The Rangers are not getting credit for the changes this season because so many other things seem the same.

As soon as Panarin and Laf break out they'll start getting credit for that line + Igor + power play.  Right now it's just Igor and power play.  By breakout I mean score goals at 5v5 the way they were in the regular season.

Imagine if Boston loses in the first round again after leading 3-1. I'll be interested to see what they'd do. It's a complete waste of some really damn good teams.

One of these teams is going to have some major movement this summer.

Leafs management has already said that they have "some good assets" and they will be restructuring to a more effective form if they lose this round.

They said this when they were down 3-1 and the Leafs have won the last two games, albeit scoring only 3 goals total in the two games in regulation.

This is bang on. In those days Toronto and especially Montreal had rights to all of the best players, especially the Canadiens. A lot of the best players were French Canadian, so of course, they had dibs. The 'Original Six' era wasn't too kind to the Rangers for reasons. Also, they lost a lot of talent who had to serve in the World War II.

Detroit had access to a lot of good Canadian players also via proximity to Ontario.

Nah. You know what team is going to show up. That inconsistent shit was a Hallmark of GG. Lavvy has them organized, prepared, and dialed in.

We still had weeks this last season where the Rangers no-showed.  No room for any of that in this run.  The first time the Rangers no-show we're probably well on the way to getting cooked.

The Bruins had 2 shots on goal last night through 28 minutes.  That no-show effort ultimately cost them game 6, which was a huge deal given the collapse last season and the two straight losses this season.

I bring the Bruins up because they are a disciplined, talented, well-coached team who sometimes get totally lost even when the stakes are the highest.

Just like the Rangers do now and then.
