Can anyone recall a time when the announcers said, “Chris Kreider in first on the forecheck.” That was the highlight of that shift!!

We can say that, and he’ll even say that, but the reality and science support he had no chance on it.

To get technical, for an 80mph shot from the top of the circles, a goalie has .09 seconds to react…in reality, the human body can’t react that quickly…so, goalies go by reading the release of the puck. You learn to know where a shot is going before it leaves the stick by the way the stick is releasing. So, when you get a slight deflection like that one, you have absolutely no clue where it’s deflecting to and therefore, no time to react…granted, that shot wasn’t 80mph, but the average NHL goalie can react in .2 seconds (far longer than .09). Even putting Shesty above average, he’s not even breaking .16. You watch any great save on a deflection and you’ll see the puck hits the goalie and then the goalie reacts, making it look like they reacted to the deflection and made a great save. The save by Bob on the deflection by Zib wasn’t a reaction save, it as a position save…Bob read the pass, put his glove 13 inches off the ice (because the goalie pad is 11 inches and players are taught to deflect it just above the pads and below the glove, and the puck just went right into his glove…if that puck is deflected anywhere else, Bob has no shot at a save, just hopes it hits him…

Uh…no…you don’t adjust to a deflection…it hits you if you’re lucky, unless it is really slowed down, which that one wasn’t…

It did…and contrary to popular belief, goalies don’t save deflections…they get hit by them. Unless the deflection is slowed down so much the goalie can react, but not usually…which is why I keep saying the Rangers need to go to the Kreider deflection as PP1…no other team can stop it and no goalie can stop it….

Not sure how many times it has to be said…puck deflected…not much he could do…Trouba was soft on the coverage and then provided a nice deflection.

Yes, it deflected…for Bob, he didn’t grab anything…he put his glove in a spot and the shooter put it in the glove…

Joe didn’t see the deflection…goalies read releases, not pucks. If you wait to see where a puck is going it’s too late…when a puck is deflected, or a guy flubs a shot, those are dangerous as it’s almost impossible to react to, especially from that spot on the ice.

No reason for that backhand pass by Goodrow in the neutral zone…had the entire boards to his right to skate and get space…dumb turnover.

Actually hit off Trouba’s leg…hard to adjust once it deflects like that…

Can’t have everything I guess…Kreider doesn’t do well in crowds that require tight checking and any checking…that’s 5 on 5. He needs space and time…man up and man down…so, on 5 v 5, Zib is playing two positions and it’s useless to throw anyone else on that line as it’s like playing a man down…everyone keeps pointing the finger at whatever right wing on that line, but it’s really Kreider on left. Sucks the energy from that whole line.

Place will go absolutely nuts if Rempe rag dolls Tkachuk…but he’ll have to skate after Tkachuk…
