  1. And to take anyone serious here. Panarin is elite but hall is not. That is laughable. Hall has carried a team on his back. Again not advocating for hall but the idea these guys don’t come around is just false. And yes there are never handfuls of elite talents year in year out as ufas but there only needs to be one. The rangers should buy that guy eventually. In my mibd when they are ready and when their roster situation revels itself. As far as next year goes and developing I think they are better served spending money trying to bring multiple guys here to strengthen the d core. Because lord knows the first thing Quinn wants is a team built on good defensive structure. The shinny toys and finishers should be added to a system like that.
  2. So go sign him then. Let’s see the needle move like it did in Columbus. Last year person after person told me Columbus was the barometer to judge what a contender looks like. Bounced with a whimper in round one last year and now fighting for the 8 seed. All with a superior team other than panarin than the rangers. For s player who moves the needle do much what’s the problem? Where is the team success that surrounds his massive talents and elite status? They don’t exist.
  3. Ek would be worse. The guy can barely stay on the ice now. 7 years from now? Geez
  4. Why does it have to be a ufa either? Having plenty of cap space allows the rangers to be players on the trade front as well. Even taking back money to acquire favorable young players to build a core. Nobody is going to change me mind here. You guys want him great. You will probably get him. I just don’t see it as being anything other than throwing a bond to a fan base. It’s a marketing signing not one about contending.
  5. I’m not suggesting they wait for hall I’m just answering the question of who’s there.
  6. Panarin is not a needle mover. He is not a top ten player in the league. At least imo. Taylor hall is ufa next year. Is he resigning with the devils?
  7. Just because you have space doesn’t mean you have to spend at at the first guy that comes around. I’ll say it again othersas good and better will be available in the next three years. If the goal is contending in 3-5 years why not wait or at least seethe value in thinking about waiting to see how your roster evolves some. I know we can draw up our lineup cards for next year but that’s video game shit. You have to take into account that some prospects will disappoint and some will surprise. Kravtsov is a great prospect but we’re just spotting him into the top six next year? Hajek played four games and looked ok bows slotted into our top four, presto. These guys all may work out but it’s probably going to take years before they are consistent pros. Meaning this team is going to take years to become anything more than they are now
  8. A big part for me here is that I don’t think panarin is a franchise player. I also not on board with else injury concerns. They exist no matter how anyone wants to spin it. With this being my first thought on both players it easy for me to not want to take the risk with where the team sits. So please enough of the false points littered through here. I don’t want to suck, I don’t want to not be good to quick, I don’t never want to sign a ufa,etc etc. what I don’t want is to take risks when the reward isn’t worth the risk. I’m not doing anything to this team that could hamper the team 4-5 years from now.
  9. As far as being to good to early. Why don’t you stick to your own words and not put them into my mouth. Stop making shit up in other words. Panarin will not make them good at all actually. This team is so flawed that anyone realistically thinking this team is an annual contender again in a year or two is blind. It doesn’t happen and won’t happen. Even the leafs who are a successful rebuild has taken 5-7 years and hit on lottery luck. Panarin will help this team in the next couple of years. However by the time this team is good it’s just as likely that at point he’s underperforming his contract, which would be a drag on the team we waited years for to see.
  10. I’m not sure how you ask that. This league is littered with players who sign massive contracts they don’t live up to.
  11. Zibanejad is also signed to a contract that is half to what panarin is going to get. Which is the entire point. The term and the money.
  12. Richards and Shattenkirk were no brainer signings too. Shattenkirk even gave a discount. Almost immediately those signings were realized to be a problem. Panarain at $11m a year has a very real possibility of being a problem. There is ZERO good enough reasons to potentially hamstring your team with a contract like that when your are in the infancy of a rebuild. The only reason is on the marketing side which has nothing to do with building a cup contender. I understand the other side of this argument. It is hard to believe that I?m in the minority here with the rangers history going this route. A history that has proven time and again that there are no sure things but with a cap on top to boot. I guess what they say is right, ?you can?t rebuild in New York?
  13. Your post was spot on. I am probably undervaluing Duchene but I do think he’s going to get less than he would have two months ago. Leave out the other planet comment and it’s a great post. The comment though was unnecessary to your point and only serves to ignite disrespect. Anyway thank you.
  14. Ok but your sarcastic post was directed at what? I respect your opinion and read all your posts. You and I are two of the few who don’t embrace the tank this season and I still don’t. Sorry if I assumed more than I should.
  15. Sure. Kreider is already here and has another year left under his current contract. So if kreider was a ufa this year I would have dealt him at the deadline. Like I said I would shop him this summer. If I didn’t like the offers I may hold onto him and reassess the situation during next season in which a decision could be made at next deadline. Of course what he wants matters. I don’t think he’s getting close to panarain money but who knows. If that’s the case I trade him. Regardless a decision on him doesn’t have to be made this summer like it does with panarain. The team as it’s positioned now should not hand out contracts like what panarain will get. If next year some of the young guys take massive strides and the team is improving quicker than thought than maybe I would.
  16. Not necessarily on either. What does kreider want contract wise? What does the situation look like come deadline next year. Zibanejad is under contract at a steal so not sure where he comes into question. To me Zibanejad is a core piece going forward. That can change over time but he seems like a great place to start building. To be honest I’m not sure on kreider.
  17. Straw man argument. I don’t want to suck for years no more than I want to lose any of the remaining games. It is possible to improve and build towards a goal without handing out 7 year deals for $11m a year. It is possible. I’m not against signing players or making trades that help the team now. Entering into massive agreements with players who will be over 30 by the time this team is ready to contend I don’t want any part of. It shouldn’t be that crazy of an opinion to understand.
  18. Sent from my iPhone using Blueshirts Brotherhood mobile app powered by Tapatalk Get it you disagree so much so that an insult is needed Great I don’t want either. I don’t want Duchene at all. Got it?
  19. My rational is that I don’t want either. My only point is that Duchene can be had for far less money and probably less term. He is a two way center man not a winger. The rational is that you may get value for Duchene at 6 or 7m compared to panarain at 11. Duchene will signing on a low while panarain is at a high. Either way I dont want either player at all. Signing either will piss me off.
  20. And if I had to choose I’d take Duchene over any of them and I really don’t like him either. He’s basically been a poison pill to success everywhere yet his teammates all seem to speak highly of him. My point is that none of them will make that big a difference other than saddling the team with a massive contract that restricts their opportunities to take advantage in the future. What is the upside here? They may make a run at an 8 seed? Panarin can come here and score 40 and they still will suck for the foreseeable future. Same with ek coming and playing like he did three years ago. Downside is that ek already showing his wear and tear and panarin is older than most when hitting ufa. Both have realistic risks of being albatross contracts three to four years from now. Probably more likely than not. So right about the time this team may finally be turning the corner these contracts fuck it all up. That possibility at the benefit of what? 8-10 place? No thanks. Brad Richards was another elite guy that made it to ufa. The entire league waited in line to meet with him. Two three years later he’s passing through waivers and the rangers are buying him out. Only difference now is that there is no amnesty buyouts now, and at least with Richards there was an actual upside. They were trying to win. Signing these two is not trying to win it’s trying to sell tickets and false hope. And it will do the exact opposite of the title of this thread. It’s a hard cap league. You can’t tear it all down, have to rebuild your entire farm system and buy your way into contention in a year of two. It won’t work. There is no guarantee they will draft right but it’s the only way.
  21. That’s fine. I don’t really think panarain or ek at this point with his injuries move the needle very much either. I don’t want any of them at the moment. 2020 maybe.
  22. Agree to disagree. No point going on about it. Hall is superior to panarin in my opinion and pieterangelo is a better fit with two good legs
  23. Rangers have plenty of vets who have been around and they can add plenty that don’t take 11m at 7 years. For some reason ufas signings is like going shopping with my kids. People act like they will be the last good players available. Next year there will be others and so forth forever. It’s just my opinion but they should build the foundation and spend big when they are ready and what’s needed becomes available. There are multiple problems with this situation. The rangers aren’t close to ready to contend. Ek has huge risk and doesn’t fit what they need. Panarin is a wing who has shown no ability to be the guy anywhere he’s been. The only reason to sign them is for a broadway buzz. To cause some excitement within the fan base and to justify ridiculous seat pricing. Sure justified reasons. They are the same reasons the rangers have used forever. It’s also never worked.
  24. This year also has Duchene, Pavelski, lee, and others. Next year Pieterangelo Hall Backstrom Both hall and pieterangelo would be better signings then panarin or ek. Not to mention the rangers would be further into the rebuilding process and would get more prime years out of them while hopefully being relevant.
