  1. It was always going to be a problem. They should trade who they have to to get under the cap. If that means trading kreider for less than fair value so be it. Fact is signing a free agent isn’t free from costing you other players. They made their decision on their direction and they had to have some idea of what the next step is. IMO future cap space, picks, and current prospects should be the last place they should trade from. If Fast has to go than fine. The cap squeeze isn’t going to stop.
  2. I know a team that got extremely lucky 4 times in 6 years, but still fucked up the entire rebuild.

Yes Rangers has got some luck, but every team do that. Devils got 1st two times in 3 years, Flyers got a 2nd OA a couple of years ago. The moves Gorton has made and the decisions he’s taken has been really good the entire way. Not overpaying for anything, made really good trades with our older roster players (especially Nash, Grabner, Hayes) and not given away any stupid long term contracts.

Do you guys really think we would be in the same position with Chiarelli as GM? Lol.

I give it 10% luck and 90% excellent work by Gorton and the front office.

Cant credit luck for all the good picks they’ve made either. The Lias pick was a reach, but almost every other pick we’ve made since 2016 looks really good.

Again are the rangers having a parade today? I’m sure the fans in Edmonton thought their rebuild was done when they hit Mcdavid gold. This team has proven nothing. In fact it’s probably a lottery team next year again.

  3. Trying to portray yourself as the victim here like these users ridiculed you for something that didn't happen is just completely and utterly inaccurate. Also, most people here just disagree with others. I haven't seen too much "ridicule" going around. I disagreed with you on Panarin as did several others here but I don't recall any moments that they were calling you out for being ridiculous.

You don't always have to be in the right on every topic. I'm calling you out on this just because it gets obnoxious.

Not portraying anything. I?ve been wrong plenty.

As far as you responding in this thread and my post you take issue with, it was directed at one user, not you who directly challenged me being right or wrong. It was said jokingly and why I responded that it was funny. You take offense to that? Maybe you should look in the mirror on whom takes whom to seriously.

  4. So now, it's assumed that the NYR are cup contenders? Long way off to the 2019/2020 play-offs, so all the chatter about how far this team has progressed is moot. None of these hot-shot draft choices has played one second in the NHL. A step back and a deep breath is in order.

Glad you said it. Gm of the year? Maybe. Can they play a game first?

  5. Fuck I forgot about chytil. Put him with panarin. Sink or swim time for him. Third year in the league and he now would have a bonafide weapon on his flank that plays with pace, exactly how he likes it. It would be evident pretty quick if chytil is going to be the future. Regardless putting Zibanejad with panarin while dangerous severely limits your line depth and makes this question more relevant. Separating them makes this mostly a moot point.
  6. Pretty sure 75% of that post was vitriolic because he can't get over his feelings on the Panarin signing.

I’m serious. If panarin is going to put up 90 points somebody has to be on the other end of those points. So you guys can’t move on not me. Panarin on a different line than Zibanejad should be the idea. While maybe not ideal, panarin should be able to elevate a third line center to a second line centers production. Long term of course the position has to be upgraded but for now Anderson or howden should be able to produce at an adequate pace and hopefully surprise on the positive side. I’m buying into the idea that panarin was brought in to help develop these kids because what’s done is done. Do why not let him do exactly that?

  7. I’m not. Zibanejad is your top center. Put panarin with any of the other centers and he should elevate whomever to at least the production of 60 points. Panarin is a franchise altering player. You don’t pay him the second biggest contract in the league next to Mcdavid and not expect him to carry his line and linemates. Lias Anderson should easily put up 60 points with him on his flank.
  8. We currently have 8,019,391 in projected cap space

    Lets say Trouba gets 7

Trading Namestnikov gets you 4 regardless of the return.

Sending Beleskey down saves you 800k

Buying out Smith gets you $3,379,167. essentially we would acquire $970,833 in dead cap space

That gives you over 9 Mil to increase Krieder by about 2-2.5 and resign Buch with space left over for other moves

The following year the dead cap space from Gerardi goes down by 2.5 mil

The year after that Hank, and Shatty come off the books

That gives us over 17 to play with for resigning whichever kids we decide to resign and that assume the same cap which is unlikely, it will probably go up

I think with a little creativity, we can retain Krieder even with the Panarin contract and still be ok to resign our young kids in the future

Ada and Lemieux need contracts too

  9. It wasn't Miller for Namestnikov. It never was and it never will be. It was a package deal and we have no idea how that trade would have been split up if it was just for McDonagh.

If they really can't find someone to take Smith or Shattenkirk at 50%, which didn't look likely, they will need to choose one of the following options to meet the cap:

    1) Buyout Smith

    2) Buyout Shattenkirk

    3) Trade Kreider

    4) Trade Buchnevich

I've ranked them by my preference, though if Kreider wants too much money then that becomes #1 for me.

Listen I’m not trying to relitegate the Tampa trade. My point is we traded our captain and another good player and one of the main pieces coming back,Namestnikov, is basically being thrown out as trash if need be by some here. I didn’t like him coming back as an asset and he mY very well be moved for very little.

As far as your options to get under the cap I’d prefer trading for space rather than buyouts. My only reason is my concern about the cap three years from today. It’s going to be tight and adding dead cap space isn’t going to help. My view of this team has not changed. Their window really starts two or three years from now. I’m a big believer that these kids need to grow some before thinking they are ready to be consistent cogs on a contending team. Of course they were always going to be on the roster before panarin. After panarin the cap situation means they are there no matter what because they need their elcs. That’s fine. The roll out of lines looks inpressice outside of center ice. But to me anyway it looks impressive in a couple of years. After all there is a lot of kids here. So in the end I’m not buying into the playoff thing for next year. Not being negative just not seeing it or thinking it’s fair to expect so much from the kids. They have great futures and that time will come.

  10. The Rangers just signed an elite player at a good age for the first time in decades.

Every single commentator worth listening to have nothing but praise for the move.

Yet there is a section of fans who needs to piss and moan, even though deep down I’m sure they know the cap is completely manageable both in the short and long term.

If you can’t be happy with this I don’t know what to tell you. Personally I’m moonwalking to work this morning.

    First time in decades? Huh?

  11. I didn’t want this move since the beginning. I’m not pissing and morning I’m trying to move on and discuss what’s next. Talking about who’s gone is great. How? I must have missed all the talk about the league interest in shattenkirk, Smith, Namestnikov, etc. because in fact there are threads right on the home page here that’s title is nobody wants shattenkirk or smith even at 50% retention. So that means a buyout?

Kreider is a for gone conclusion I agree. Kind of flies in the all panarin costs is money argument but let’s move on.

It really is funny though. For five months I’m steadfast against signing him. Then he signs and I’m pissing and moaning and “never happy about the moves they make”. Outside of the return of Namestnikov for miller I was 100% on board with all the moves since the letter. I thought they were doing a great job. Now Namestnikov is being discussed as being thrown out for nothing. Miller just got traded for a first. People complain about my negativity, argue their point than change with the wind. Namestnikov was a great return not 16 months ago. Today he’s garbage and can be disposed of for nothing in return.

Look panarin is here I hope the team does great with him. I’m not doubting that he won’t have individual success. I’m worried about the ultimate success, winningacup. I’m certainly no expert and my mind can be changed. I hope it is.

Happy about the move though? Why would I be happy? I didn’t want it ever. I don’t think it’s smart. I also think hes being grossly overrated. I don’t view him as a franchise player.
