  1. My son was telling me about the part failure yesterday...amazing that it couldn't occur during FP or Quali. You've done some really fun stuff and I'd like to enjoy the racing school experience one day too. I've have my eye on buying a F-type next (driving a XE R-Sport now) and they offer a driving school at Bethel Raceway in Sullivan County, NY which is about a hour drive from my home. Best part is that they bring cars for you to drive so you don't have to put the wear on yours. Senna? I had forgotten about the conspiracy thinking until now. Wow. I'm not sure how I feel about that today...it seems to me like that steering column alteration was done in a rush might have been the ultimate cause. But I'm perplexed with how the column splicing was welded and how that could have possibly fractured. I used to weld when doing car restoration as a business with my dad - so the idea of a sleeved retrofit makes sense to me...but the welds failing don't. Your thoughts?
  2. Truthsayer! And your wish came true - LOL. I'm reading Syndergaard's quotes today about the how the Mets got screwed by the travel home, and while very true, nobody wants to hear that.
  3. "Old enough to set the table, old enough to eat." I'll just leave that there.
  4. Now that Sather is stepping down, make Henrik the next Rangers President. He clearly can dress for the part! Plus, it allows NYR to pay him big dollars outside of the CAP. Hank 'retires,' get to stay in NY and takes a front office job...its a win-win.
  5. Have you checked out Formula-e in Brooklyn? We went to the inaugural race and it was a pretty entertaining atmosphere but the race view was a challenge. We sat along the straight in the larger grandstand and you watched most of the race on a giant screen positioned opposite the bleachers. Due to the narrow tracks they use, you really cannot see much happening unless it is right below you. Cool thing though, in place of the usual dogs and burgers, they had an adjacent street blocked off and 8-10 food trucks lined up in a row. That was a great idea! The fan exhibits were interesting and like I said, the overall day was fun. We skipped last year but are thinking about taking in this year's race.
  6. Great story. When the movie, "Senna" came out, I took my son to see it in the Village at a small theater. It was packed full of racing fans and you could hear a pin drop - and plenty of sniffles - when the tragedy happened. My son's F1 awakening is a direct result of that movie. The Netflix series is a really great insight to the workings of the teams and people in them. I really hope they show a recap of this season next year. There is talk about Ferrari and Mercedes participating in it this year. Toto had an interesting quote (paraphrasing): "We didn't want to take the light away from other teams as we get plenty of coverage. We also didn't want a microphone to come in a critical moments in team meetings...but next year, we'll see." It would be good to get a look inside the top teams too - there are plenty of interpersonal dynamics going on. Like BOT' new attitude this year. He's not laying down for Hamilton. LEC too - he's going to give VET a run for his money. While not perfect, I like the new aero direction and it seems to have helped the midfield gain some pace. Passing and cars fighting for position is key if they want to retain fans and attract new ones. Have any plans to go to a race? I'm trying my best to get up to Montreal this June, trouble is, that Sunday begins our team's biggest 4-day auction event of the year and I might have to show properties. If the day is free, I'm definitely scooting up with my son and surprise him with the destination. Fingers-crossed.
  7. Detroit GP - that must have been awesome. My last race was in '84 or '85 in Montreal. I can still feel the hair stand up on my arms when I saw and heard that speed for the first time. BTW - I went to both Indy car races at the Meadowlands during that timeframe. One of them was run in a huge downpour and I was take by the speed of guys flying in the mist behind one another. Impossible to see anything but that red blinking light on the transfer case. My youngest son - now 20 - is really getting into F1 this season after watching with me the past few years. I cannot wait for us to go to a race together.
  8. Agree on Grosjean and was thinking at Bahrain that he should just hang up the keys. Fuel drag and F1 are worlds apart...and yet they are all racers. It should be one big fraternity of fast people.
  9. HUGE disappointment for LEC and Ferrari must be pulling their hair out!
  10. Thx for the link, I'll definitely check it out. Do you use the F1 app? I like it very much for news and short video. This year, I've subscribed to F1 TV PRO to see the different camera angles and hear unfiltered race radio. While I'm happy with how it works on my iPhone, it doesn't AirPlay well to the TV. I questioned that and they said it only has 'mobile' capability right now but they are feverishly working on a TV widget for release this season. I cannot wait for that. (Speaking of TV, I miss the old trio of Hobbs, Matchett and Diffey but have warmed to the current broadcast team.) I'm really glad that 'Grid Walk' great Wil Buxton has been brought back around again. his relationships and commentary are spot-on IMO. LEC and VET lead FP2 and are only 0.169 apart! Quali starts in 6 minutes.
  11. ^LOL - yup, that was different for sure. Welp, the first race is over and my boys at Ferrari got their arses handed to them after such a great showing during testing in Barcelona. On to Bahrain this weekend. Much different track and I'm hoping for RED progress. RIC had another very unfortunate home race when he rode over that drainage swail and tore his car apart at the start. BTW - anyone watch Indy Cars at COTA? Herta became the youngest winner at 18 years and 6 months? 3 months? No matter, it was fairly entertaining although I do not agree with not enforcing track limits. Indy cars were running off course to pass or gain speed advantages that while entertaining surely added a ridiculous measure of danger to the event IMO.
  12. Cano knows...how to make a METS fan forget he was a Yankee.
  13. Let's Go METS! Please, please, please let our pitching staff remain healthy this season. That goes for the field players too! It's about time METS fans had something to believe in again and to cheer for. Guess I'll head over to the box office one of these days. :nervous:
  14. ^Thx paddy -- we watched 3 of the segments and it's very good at showing the pressure these guys are under to perform at speed. First race is from Australia this weekend @1AM our time Saturday night.
  15. Bringing Shesty here now doesn't make sense overall does it? It will burn a year by having him play meaningless games at MSG -- not to mention Hartford if that's where they site him. I would agree that another season in KHL is a good idea.
  16. When we win our next Cup it?s likely that no Ranger from the past 3-5 very good seasons will be on that team - Henrik included. We will win the Cup with most, if not all ?new? names we don?t yet know. I wish that was not the case but seriously... If Lemieux gives us 7 and possibly 10 minutes of Avery/Prust energy and helps us get some swagger back I?m all for it. Put the Ice Capades? skirts away!!
  17. Good to see Eddie getting out more. Anybody around here listen to Howard Stern? The interview he did with Snoop explored Eddie's disappearance from public view. Snoop said there is a degree of insecurity Eddie is dealing with from the pressure of all his success. I would not have thought that having watched Eddie's persona evolve over time - he always looked so confident and in control. Murphy can say some seriously funny stuff.
  18. MSGGo does not work outside of the USA in my experience. The Spectrum app is good, but you need to be connected to your 'home network.' WTF? How can I do that from Mexico? When all else fails, I listen to the game on the streamed radio call which you can find on the NHL/NY Rangers web site - the link has been very reliable and I get to hear the friendly voices of Ken Albert/Dave Maloney while traveling.
  19. No worries, Dunny. I've become conditioned to 'let the market speak' - so bidding is natural for me. The finest things in the world sell at auction - top art, stocks and a host of commodities (NASDAQ), so why not real estate? (rhetorical) Beyond bidding, it's the psychology of real estate that I've grown to truly appreciate. Seller's are generally 'in love' with their homes and determining a selling price can be a real hassle. Some Realtors are very good at doing CMA's or 'Broker Opinion of Value' and can generally tell what the asset should sell for...within reason. What is not accounted for is the emotion of buying. Identical homes in a typical subdivision have different values. Morning sun? Very important to some buyers. Evening sunset in the dining room? Similar convo. On the buying side? That's a whole lot of fun!! When I show homes, it is done once, to all of the buyers at a specific start time. Not the typical 1-4 but rather at 1:11PM. What is that about? Auctioneers want buyers to see the competition. In traditional real estate, the buyer feels like he/she has the leverage. They are typically the only buyer in the home and can tire-kick the property all they want. Why? It justifies their less-than-asking price offer. Silly. When you put 3, 4, 5 or 25 buyers or more (for a very nice home) in the same property at the same time, guess what happens? Tire-kicking stops. Nobody wants to be the outcast and be seen as a negative Nelly. All of a sudden I hear things like, "Wow! I forgot how cool shag carpet can be." I'm not kidding. Buyers who would have normally looked to poke holes in the seller's price keep their mouths closed. The real buyers - and that usually comes down to just 2 to 3 people - see that if they really, really like the home, that they are going to have to pay a decent price for it. For me, it's fun but then again, I do this every day. I'm comfortable working in an environment where others are uncomfortable. Too many real estate agents are uncomfortable themselves (IMO) with seeing their seller or buyer become uncomfortable and then ruin that great situation by trying to eliminate that feeling. Deals are brokered when uncomfortable emotions provide grease for the gears of the transaction. When the seller begins to think that their selling opportunity might get lost when they try to hold fast to a selling price BUT they really want to move soon...or when buyers begin to feel that another buyer might snatch this home away from them with a slightly better offer...it's those scenarios where the real action is. So, as Pete asked, is it really that difficult to sell a home? Nope, not in my mind and especially when you are working with a agent who understands the mental dynamics and can work everyone through it without you even realizing that it is happening.
  20. I like to work with those at the top of the charts. That means consulting your local Realtor Board and asking who last year?s winners were in several categories: Top home sales office/ top sales agents (you want 2-3 to interview) so you will work with people who SELL homes. The most successful agents specialize; Some are great listers, others are best at showing and selling homes. In a way you need both but you only get to hire one. Ask to see the marketing plan devised by the Realtor. Ask about the dollar commitment that will make the plan you review, happen. Then embed that dollar commitment into your listing. This won?t be easy but you want some measure of accountability. If you feel more should be spent, write a check. Yup, pay for more to ensure you get the best possible marketing. Social media targeted ads don?t cost much so consider contributing $500 to your own cause. *I?m a 20-year real estate auctioneer and Broker who teaches classes for Realtor Boards when I want to. Our selling team sells between 800-2,000 properties annually. I?m not soliciting you for your listing but wanted to add some context to my comments. Good luck.
